I worked on this damn chapter for two hours, had the story edited perfectly, future plot points set up, dialogue made less cringe, only a few paragraphs left to go, then of course the app crashes, so enjoy the half assed chapter that I wasn't motivated to actually make good.

P.S- I'm removing any and all previous smut that doesn't actually drive the story and character development, not sure why I even wrote any of it in the first iteration outside of assumed fan service, but that was a few years back now.

The three of them ran back towards the kindergarten area where they felt they would be safe, Garnet knowing that they would have to regroup and replan everything, as another dash and grab plan won't work after this.
Once they were safely inside, Connie dropped to the ground, finding it difficult to catch her breath.

"Who was that back there?!" Amethyst questioned Garnet loudly, ignoring Connie completely.
"I thought all Gems took on the appearance of chicks." The purple Gem pressed the fusion harder, the aforementioned team leader looking upset and almost ready to come undone.

"Amethyst, you know who that was..." Garnet said through gritted teeth, not wanting to say it out loud, feeling as if she did, she would be speaking the unthinkable into reality.
"You aren't suggesting what I think you are, are you?" The short, visibility disheveled Gem asked, balling up her fists, offended that the fusion would even try to suggest such a thing.

"What happened back there? Why didn't you guys grab Steven on your way out?" Connie interrogated them more, obviously upset that the mission got them nowhere but in even more trouble.

"Well Garnet here seems to think he joined Homeworld for whatever reason!" Amethyst accused, raising her voice as she glared at their leader.
"She thinks he sent Homeworld Gems to get us."

"Wait, what?! Why would you think that? What happened up there?!" The human girl began to question once again, becoming frustrated by their vagueness.
"Stop leaving me in the dark, dang it!"

"We were walking into a trap."
Garnet finally spoke to her, not looking up from the ground.
"There was a male voice that sent Gems after us, we were almost caught.
There are no male Gems, and he spoke as if he were Steven." The fusion explained, referring to him talking about Steven's body double as if it were his.
She clenched her fists, feeling his gaze still on her, even after getting so far away
"Not to mention I saw his eyes...his pink, glowing, Diamond eyes."

"Wait, Diamond eyes? His eyes were completely normal when I saw him last," Connie said, trying to formulate some kind of excuse for Steven here.
"Plus, don't you find it hard to believe that he decided to embrace his Diamond heritage in the few hours we've been separated?"

"What are you getting at, Connie?" Garnet questioned her, taking her visor off, her three eyes locking with Connie's two.
"I know what I heard and saw."

"Well, brainwashing then." Connie responded, not convinced he was really involved.
"That or mind control. Or something we couldn't even imagine, like some tool that forced his Diamond-hood out." The human continued to reason, flat out refusing to believe they were able to make him one of them so fast.
"He isn't doing this willingly if at all, we need to free him or do whatever we need to do to get him back to normal."

"I swear if they hurt him in any way, I'll crush each of them myself." Amethyst growled, unnecessarily cracking her knuckles.
"Diamond or not, I'll beat the snot outta anyone who hurts my brother. "

"Calm yourself, don't get hot headed now." Garnet ordered, knowing the comment was hypocritical, as she was freaking out on the inside herself.
"We need to get in contact with him first and foremost... "
