It might seem out of character, but Li Bai was a fan of transmigration novels.
That's right, the emotionless, unfeeling, Li Bai actively read novels where a person transmigrates into ancient times, face slaps a bunch of people, and gets a happy ending with a doting sexy as sin man.
However, she didn't read them for the good plot, interesting premise, or pile of dog food you get shoved down your throat. Li Bai read them because she found the schemes to be interesting.
From the get go she knew no one in that world stood a chance against the badass spy, undefeated martial artist, or cool headed CEO, that transmigrated. She didn't care about the love between the male and female lead or the many skills the protagonist brought over from her world. Li Bai's intrigue lay with the many schemes the female lead used to get what she wants and the political infrastructure of the novel.
Apart from those two, everything else was just posturing.
One of the novels she read was; Qinwang's Peerless Concubine. With her photographic memory, Li Bai remembered the story's details like she'd only read it yesterday.
The novel started with Heng Miao, a formidable business woman of the twenty first century. After a plane crash, she awoke in the body of a Concubine's daughter, hated and abused for being a meek fool.
Thanks to plot halo, she saves the life of the Empire's most famed Prince, Chao Shen Qi Qinwang, immediately igniting his interest in her with her fierce personality and fiery eyes.
The two meet many more times after that, falling more and more in love as they overcome one obstacle after another.
Unfortunately, a certain someone has eyes on Chao Shen Qi. This person is, Luan Jiao Jiao, the main daughter of Prime Minister Luan Yuan and Imperial Princess Chao Song, the Emperor's favorite sister.
Luan Jiao Jiao has always been doted on and given everything she so much as glanced at. As a result, she demands marriage to Chao Shen Qi who she fell in love with at first sight.
Who would have thought that some months after their marriage, Chao Shen Qi would take in a Concubine, the surprisingly bold Heng Miao who just finished putting the members of her family in place.
Luan Jiao Jiao sees Chao Shen Qi is truly and madly in love with this Concubine and tries to harm Heng Miao at every given chance. But how can a spoilt girl of ancient times best a seasoned woman of the twenty first century?
Time and time again Luan Jiao Jiao is humiliated by Heng Miao. Eventually, she tries to make Heng Miao barren but Heng Miao escapes and enlists the help of Luan Jiao Jiao's trusted maid. What Heng Miao didn't know was that the maid was also in love with Chao Shen Qi and acts rashly, causing Luan Jiao Jiao's baby to die a day after it's born due to poisoning and she, Luan Jiao Jiao, becomes barren.
She goes mad and tries to kill Heng Miao with her own hands but is killed by Chao Shen Qi and goes down in history as a shameless and jealous woman. The relationship between the Imperial Princess and the Emperor grows sour when the latter refuses to avenge Luan Jiao Jiao.
Soon enough the Luan clan takes things into their own hands and are exterminated for trying to revolt.
The male and female lead then go on to defeat all of Chao Shen Qi's brothers, face slap a few other enemies, and take the throne as the greatest Emperor and Empress to ever live.
Li Bai only remembered all these things when she saw Chao Shen Qi's face. The memories were fuzzy at first, but upon looking into Heng Miao's bright eyes, she was able to recall everything. They called me 'Luan Qinwangfei'. I've become Luan Jiao Jiao?
