The sky had turned a light shade of indigo when the night's— or morning's, dramatic events came to a close. With golden orange beams peeking over the eastern horizon, all the tension dissipated with Sun Ning's death and the fatigue that had been held off descended on everyone.

Li Bai was the first to leave. Now that what she identified as anxiety left her bones, she became fully aware of just how tortured her body was. While leaning on Lu-momo she made her way back into her residence and was finally able to rest.

As for Heng Miao and Chao Shen Qi, they were quiet as the latter walked the former back to her courtyard.

Heng Miao felt...bested? It was the first time she'd felt like this in both her past and present lives.

She, Heng Miao, had been played by a mere maid?! Someone borrowed her dagger to hurt someone else and she didn't even realize it? No! There's no way she could have been played by some ancient bumpkin!

But the fact remained that every time Heng Miao thought of how she would have wrongfully killed Luan Jiao Jiao and left a newborn motherless, Heng Miao shivered.

As for Chao Shen Qi, his mind was frustratingly locked on Luan Jiao Jiao. She was really strange today, mature, calm, considerate. Basically all the things she usually isn't.

Chao Shen Qi frustratingly recalled her eyes, those blank, lifeless, empty eyes. But then he remembered, they weren't like that through out. There were times her eyes lit up and overflowed with emotion. He just didn't take note because they weren't aimed at him.

Chao Shen Qi frowned, a disgruntled feeling seemingly appearing from nowhere. When looking at him her eyes held nothing as though she regraded him, Chao Shen Qi Qinwang, as nothing. Yet to that damn slave that tried to harm her Luan Jiao Jiao willingly bared her heart.

It wasn't his business. He hates that spoilt woman he was forced to marry though he repeatedly told his Imperial Uncle he was not willing. Chao Shen Qi should not care for her, he should be pleased that his image was no longer possessively reflected in her gaze...He should be happy...

"Shen Qi don't you think Luan Jiao Jiao is planning something?"

Heng Miao's voice pulled Chao Shen Qi from his conflicting feelings. "What?" He muttered.

Not noticing the disinterest in her lover's voice, Heng Miao went on to explain with a thoughtful expression. "Luan Jiao Jiao's so different today. She's definitely planning something so you must be careful alright?" In a part of her heart Heng Miao would not acknowledge, she knew her pride had been bruised and she was throwing shade on Luan Jiao Jiao to vent. She hoped to find amusement in Chao Shen Qi's aversion towards her.

Chao Shen Qi nodded dismissively. "Right. You must be tired, get some rest."

Heng Miao slightly sensed something was wrong as Chao Shen Qi walked away, but she ignored it and assumed he was only tired.

Given some time, she'd wish she didn't.
