Chapter 1: Explosive Inferno

Joseph wearily got off at his bus stop as it was nearly 6pm and he knew that America was going to change forever. As he was walking up his street to get home he could see the bright blood coloured sun beginning to set down onto New York, and the unkept, cracked walls of his ran down area that reflected the darkness that was rooted in the brightest of cities, and the eagerness and worry of the people around him. People were screwing huge metal frames onto their doors and windows, others covering their cars with fire proof sheets, and a few leaving their homes completely, leaving an empty, desolate shell of a home behind. They weren't taking any chances. The sky was beginning to dim as the sun lowered it self gently, making the tall streetlights come on, glowing onto the distant floor below. The atmosphere of dreadful fear drowned the country as the first purge in American history was about to commence.

2020 is the year the first night of merciless blood shed would take place four years after president Trump took the White House. The Purge is a once a year event that lasts for 12 hours on the 18th of July. The new founding fathers, the elite group of politics from the NRA and scientists led by Trump have said they discovered that it is human nature to have violent urges. Murderous thoughts, men's secret desire to rampage and pillage to cause mass destruction and havoc has been proven by them, and that's what the Purge allows. Trump promised it. Starting from this July 18th, madness will plague the streets of America, with men and women allowed to loot, destroy and kill all for the sake of freedom. The new founding fathers say that it will 'heal America' and that the states will be a 'nation reborn'. Lies, deceit and power has allowed this to pass legislation. The American people wanted change. This, will change everything.

Joseph was thinking this as he walked to his home. As he climbed up the steps to his home he overlooked the neighbourhood he lived. He saw the once vibrant streets were now cold an empty, homes under intense lockdown with large shutters on the windows and doors, and the unsettling sound of silence. His house was the only one on the street that was unprotected by metal and wood.

Joseph feared no man.

He stepping into his home and breathed in deeply. His tour in Syria serving in the Marines had left his home with a welcoming, musty smell of pleasure, knowing that everything that he had left in there was exactly the same as before. Untouched. He threw his heavy militaristic rucksack onto his couch and turned on the TV that was tuned onto CNN. A white female with long brown hair was reporting about the purge as headlines about it flashed below her at the bottom of the screen in capitals. They read in large bold text about the dangers of staying out at this time of night, and how everyone must stay inside for their own safety. The woman carried on talking but Joseph wasn't listening, but instead just watching the digital timer next to her count down the seconds till it was time. 34m:21 seconds. 20 seconds. 19 seconds.

He carried on staring as the precious time drained away. Joseph then reached over to his rucksack and then pulled out a large dusty brown M4 carbine and a thick metallic bullet proof vest that was the same colour. He fitted it onto his muscular body so it covered his back, his large bulging chest and rippling abdomen. He looked into the bag again and pulled out four fuelled loaded clips for his gun and pushed them into the vests tight pockets. The assault rifle was a soldiers best friend and life saver. It's scope had a purple tint of colour, the end of the long barrel had a cylindrical silencer. The weapon showed sign of age and wear as it was covered with scratches from furious combat with terrorists. Joseph began to tense at the dreadful memories from his military career, but was interrupted by the sound of intense sound of sirens from outside.

The whole country roared with the wailing of the purge sirens. They sounded assertive, retroactive and scary as they echoed their way into everyone's home. The huge screen in his living room began to flash and suddenly caned blue, with white large text that covered the whole screen. It read in capitals:
