Panic began to arise once again in the dark computer room. Mr Solo shone the light from his phone so there was some light.
"We won't be able to do anything without light," said Ebu.
"But what light sources are there?" asked Faduma.
"There are some candles in the technician room," said Hiba.
"I remember seeing some in there when I was sent there a few weeks ago".Solomon and Yahya went out the classroom to check out the situation with the walkers. There were dozens of walkers surrounding the technician room so there was no way to get in there. The group tried to think of another solution but none presented itself.
"The school has backup generators that can be turned on, which will give back the electricity," said Mr Curtis.
"The school will be the only place with light for miles, many people will come here, maybe even some of our families" said Baran.
"It's worth the risk, right?""Yes," some agreed.
"No," said Solomon.
"If you turn on the generators then hundreds, maybe even thousands of people will come here and what if all of them turn into walkers?""Then the school will be surrounded by all of them," answered Sami.
"It's a bit of a sticky one still but we can't do shit without any light, we have to risk it,""Fine, where are the generators?" asked Solomon.
"They are underneath the school, you gain access in the sports hall, there is an entrance to the generator room there," explained Mr Curtis.
"Fuck, that's far but I'll go alone," said Solomon.
"It's safer with two, I'll go with you," said Gorkem.
The two of them prepared to go. Both of them took the teachers' phones to use as a torch.
"Stay safe," Joe told them as they left Room 318.
The walkers near the reflection room staircase had cleared off so they moved some tables and went down the stairs. They came across three walkers, just finishing eating Mr Brampton's body. Half of his torso was gone and his guts were hanging out. The smell was sickening, neither of them had smelled anything worse. Solomon dealt with two of the walkers, while Gorkem dealt with one; he was at a disadvantage due to his height. Once they were done, Solomon stabbed Mr Brampton in the head to make sure he doesn't come back. As they were going down the stairs, they heard screams coming from one of the MFL classrooms. They saw Miss Organa and a couple of students trapped inside her classroom; she was holding the door against at least ten walkers. The duo possibly couldn't handle ten walkers alone.
"We can't let them die," said Solomon.
"I know, but we have to be quick if we want to save them, the screams have probably attracted more walkers," said Gorkem.
"I'll cause a distraction so the walkers are led away from the doors then you'll escort Miss and the students out of the classroom".Solomon nodded. He watched Gorkem kill a walker and went into the toilets and began flushing the toilets. He was quick, he managed to flush two before running out of the toilets to the display board, to avoid getting trapped. The flushing had attracted the walkers' attention.
Miss Organa and the four students began to leave the classroom quietly but quickly.
"Go! Take them to the third floor" said Gorkem, as the walkers began to look back at him.
"I'll activate the generator," said Gorkem.
"If I run into any more walkers, I'll kill them or avoid them if there is too many".Gorkem backed away with his knife out.
"Just survive somehow," Solomon told him.
Solomon went to the third floor, killing two walkers on the way. Once he reached, he and Miss Organa blocked the staircase again with tables."Thank you, Solomon," she said.
Miss Organa's class consisted of four Year 7 students called Anthony, Damon, Alayna and Aidan. When they arrived back in the computing room, Yahya was the first to approach Solomon and he knew what he was going to ask.
"Where's Gorkem?" asked Yahya.
"We got separated, he's going to turn it on alone because I had to bring this class back," explained Solomon.
Yahya nodded sorrowfully, hoping that Gorkem would make it back alive. Too many people had died already, Gorkem couldn't die too. Faduma informed Miss Organa of the situation and she began to sob. Now all they to do was wait for Gorkem to activate the generators. Faduma saw a small Year 7 girl, sitting in the corner with her head in her hands. She confronted the sad, lonely girl and knelt down to speak to her.
"Hi," she started, the girl looked up at her.
"What's your name?""Alayna," she answered quietly.
"That's a nice name".
"I know it's scary, the world being 'over', the thought of you never seeing your family again, I'm scared too but we have to be strong to overcome the fear inside us".Alayna smiled after the thoughtful words Faduma told her.
The entire school became illuminated in light once again. Gorkem had done it. However now that the school was lit up, it meant that people from around London would see it as a beacon of hope and start coming here.
The group needed to find a place to sleep but there was nothing to use because the school wasn't made for residentials. The carpet was rough but it was better than nothing. There were three rooms, which were used as bedroom quarters. In one room was Miss Organa, Ainhoa, Ebu, Mina, Solomon, Michael, Jamie, Damon, Mariya, Aidan, Emma; in the second room was Sami, Baran, Yahya, Mr Solo, Joe, Scarlett, Anthony and in the third room was Cemilcan, Faduma, Hiba, Aisha, Shania, Brooklyn, Curtis, Alayna, Keara, Miss Storm. The rooms were mostly empty as they had used tables as a barricade, the chairs had been put at the side of the rooms.
Once most people were in their rooms, Solomon and Sami was on guard duty, making sure no walkers infiltrate their temporary base of operations. Sami was on edge, his hand shaking. It was because of Gorkem; he still hasn't returned and it's been almost two hours. Solomon reassured him saying that Gorkem was tough and he was probably still alive, and that he doesn't return by tomorrow morning, they will go looking for him.
Once they made multiple passes on the third floor, they reached the bridge again and they saw a small group of people staring at them from the road. It wasn't a large amount; it was only eleven people. Maybe two families? Although they were far away, Solomon knew what they were thinking. Thinking that this school was their last hope, their saviour. But they weren't. They were just a group of students and teachers struggling to survive. From around every corner, more people began to appear. Adults, teenagers, kids; whole families were arriving.
"I told you this was bad idea, it's only going to get worse," said Solomon.
"Yeah, I can see that now but we had no other choice," replied Sami.
"More and more people are going to come here and if they all turn, then the school will be surrounded by walkers".
Solomon went into theclassroom and laid down near the door, his knife close to him so it was quickto reach. What was going to be the best day of his life ended up being theworst day of his life. Solomon needed to sleep, tomorrow was going to be a longday however after today's events, he wasn't even sure he would be able to sleep normally again. He stared up into the ceiling as he drifted out of consciousness
