Chapter 4

I wake up much sooner than Finn does. I peel my eyes open around eight in the morning and roll over to watch the other boy for a few minutes. He has an arm above his head and another on his stomach and his legs are tangled in blanket.

I watch the way his chest moves as he sleeps, and I watch the way his eyes twitch from beneath his eyelids.

This is very weird.

I can't help but stare though. This is the person I will be living with for the next ten months. It could even possibly be years if we actually become friends. I don't know why but I shudder at the thought.

His lips are parted slightly as he lets out a small groan before rolling over and turning away from me. I'm being super weird. I shake my head in self disappointment before quietly crawling out of bed. I tip toe out of my room and into the main living area.

The room is empty besides the morning sun shining brightly through the half open blinds. I walk over to the cupboard and grab a glass. I gulp down as much water as possible before sitting down at the kitchen table with a frown.

I have no clue what to do with myself right now. I look around at the cupboards an the mostly empty counters and decide what I need to do: grocery shopping.

I know there's a Trader Joes around here, so I'll probably go there. Apparently, it gets pretty crowded and it's best to go in the morning, which is perfect for me right now. I frown and wonder if I should wake anyone up to come with me, but I choose against it. They can get their own groceries.

My finances aren't horrible. I worked two part time jobs all throughout high school. One of them was at a small market and I also did lifeguarding which is good money. I have a pretty good amount of money saved up. Plus, Dan said he would send me some money a few times a month so I'm not stressing too much about money.

My parents are the type who believe that I should only focus on college when I'm in college, but I know that I'll probably end up getting a part time soon. That is, if I can find one in such a busy city.

I tip toe back into my room to see Finn in the same position that he was in when I left. I stand in the doorway and look at him for a few moments before entering and changing quickly. I just throw on sweats. I know I'll have to shower when I get back though. I grab my wallet and shoes and I'm out the door in minutes.

I have to google the grocery store as I take the elevator down to the first floor. It's only slightly off campus. Okay, that's good for me.

I look around me, surprised to see the college empty. I guess everyone is settling in and getting their sleep before classes start. I mean, classes do start in a week so I don't doubt that everyone is sleeping as much as they can. I'm not one to sleep in though. I can run on a surprisingly small amount of sleep.

I'll just need a lot of coffee if I do.

As I walk, I open my notes on my phone to list the things I want:

Eggs

Milk

Butter

Coffee

Bread

Quick dinners

Orange juice

I mean, it's not the most nutritious grocery list, but I am an eighteen-year-old college student. Could anyone really blame me?
