paul was tired. patrol had seemed like an eternity and all he could think about was phoenix. he sighed and rubbed the back of his neck, walking towards his house. abruptly he changed directions. instead he headed to his girlfriend's house.

phoenix was laying on her back, staring at her ceiling when he knocked on her window. she scrambled up to unlock the clouded glass pane and smiled softly at him, scooting over to let him inside.

paul gave her a swift kiss before pulling her back towards the inviting covers. she looked up at him, resting her head on his toned chest, "why do all the best people die?"

he smiled, thinking of a picture he found online (he found it on pinterest but he'd take that secret to his grave), "when you're in a garden, what flowers do you pick?"

"the most beautiful?" phoenix's nose scrunched up, her eyes shining with tears that had yet to fall.

"exactly." paul couldn't help but give her an adoring look. she was so beautiful and he wouldn't ever give her up. she had talked to him about feeling small periods of emptiness and small bursts of anxiety and he had a good idea of what those meant but he prayed to the ancestors that he was wrong. he would fight to keep her all to himself.

phoenix giggled softly. it was one of those laughs that makes a girl sound like she's a cross between a classy lady and a dying cow. paul said it was adorable, she said it was annoying. they compromised and paul was no longer allowed to comment on her laugh.

"you got that off pinterest didn't you?"

paul's tanned skin showed only a hit of red, "no?"

phoenix gasped playfully, "you totally did!"

"alright, alright fine, i did, but in my defense pinterest has great quotes for essays and english assignments that i don't feel like putting all my effort in."

phoenix kissed his collarbone lightly, "okay paul, if you say so."

they quieted for a bit before paul spoke up, "y'know, i think that the glow in the dark stars work perfectly with your bedroom."

phoenix giggled softly again, "and you say you only use pinterest for school."

"it's really easy to get distracted with that app!" paul wasn't so much concerned about phoenix questioning his stereotypical masculinity as he was with trying to keep a smile on her perfect face.

phoenix didn't answer, only cuddled closer to his warm body. "please don't leave me."

"they'd have to drag me away and deal with an angry wolf before i'd be taken away from you." he kissed her head and felt her smile into his chest.

"i love you, paul lahote." the words were product of a sleepy phoenix. sure, they'd said a few playful 'i love you's' and 'love you, too's' before, but this, this was a heartfelt, a genuinely serious 'i love you'.

paul felt her breath even out and once he was sure she was asleep, he spoke in a whisper so soft and fragile, "i love you a million times more, phoenix longfeather. please don't ever leave me."

okay, first off: that was so freaking adorable oh my gosh. second: i realize this is the early 2000's where 'apps' weren't even a widely known concept. let's pretend it's around 2015, okay? cool. and third: embry's coming up next chapter and omg am i excited! okay that's all, love you guys so so so much!
