*really quickly, for the sake of the plot line, embry phases a lot earlier than he did in the movies and books so this chapter could be possible. ALSO MERRY MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!"

phoenix had decided saturday was the perfect day to go to port angeles without telling paul, embry, or the rest of the pack. she had just entered the boutique when she smelled something sweet, almost too sweet. glancing around, she saw three women, all too beautiful to be human. she studied them, tilting her head adorably. they weren't human, they weren't witches, they weren't shapeshifters, and they weren't vessels, so what were they? one of the women, the pixie one, turned her head catching phoenix's eye. the quilete girl didn't flinch, she didn't avert her eyes. instead she continued her studying. finally having enough of her curiosity, she walked over.

"what are you?"

the blonde one, the prettiest of all of them, sniffed haughtily, "human? what else?"

phoenix giggled softly, "no you're not. your scents are off. but you're not a shifter, witch, or vessel either, so really, what are you three?"

the blonde looked at her with renewed interest, "are you human?"

the girl in question shrugged, "who is nowadays? there are way too many supernatural elements in the world now. i can barely keep up with what day of the week it is."

the mother figure gave her a gentle smile, "how about you come with us to the cafe around the corner? we can discuss this there."

phoenix nodded and they went to the cashier. ten minutes later, phoenix was sitting in front of the three with a caramel crème frappuccino and a sugar cookie. "so what are you? and don't say human. your scents completely throw that option out the window."

the blonde sighed, "we should introduce ourselves first."

"i'll need two sets of identification and an explanation because stranger danger. and my boyfriends are very, very protective. seriously, it's like they think i'm completely defenseless. you know i had to sneak away just to get here? i'm giving it thirty minutes before they find me." she looked up and saw the women in front of her smiling amused at her rambling. "sorry, you were saying?"

"i'm rosalie hale, this is my adopted sister and my mother for all intents and purposes, alice and esme cullen."

"can i see some id?"

alice laughed, pulling out her drivers license as esme and rosalie did the same. phoenix hummed and nodded to herself. "well a deal was a deal. i'm—"

she was cut off by a loud male voice, "phoenix longfeather! do you have any idea how worried we were?"

"wow, five minutes. i'm impressed. you guys normally take a bit longer," phoenix sipped her frappuccino nonplussed by the raging boys coming towards her.

paul glared at the women across from his imprint, embry doing the same, their bodies shaking rapidly, "what did you do to her leeches?"

"paul, that's not a nice thing to call someone! apologize to them now," phoenix smiled apologetically to rosalie, "he's normally not this rude."

she gave paul a sharp look, "paul."

"sorry." paul bit out, extremely reluctantly.

phoenix gave him a hug, "thank you."

placing a kiss on his cheek, she turned to give embry a hug, "i missed you."

"oh so he gets an 'i missed you' and i get a 'that's not very nice'. i see how it is."

phoenix smiled at him innocently, before turning to the very amused, and slightly frightened women, "it was nice to meet you three. do you guys live close to la push?"

"yes, we live in forks." alice answered.

"you were nice to be around. do you mind if we hang out some time?" surprisingly it was rosalie who asked.

phoenix nodded enthusiastically, ignoring paul and embry's possessive growls. "sure, here's my number," she entered it into their proffered phones, before smiling at them again, "i'll see you guys later!"

"it was nice to meet you."

"you too."

paul and embry walked away, each holding one of her hands, trying to calm down their shaking bodies. they led her to paul's truck. thankfully, phoenix had taken the bus so she could calm her mates' tempers down without worrying about her car. they got in the car, and as soon as paul started the engine, phoenix asked innocently, "why were you so upset? they were nice."

"goldie, they were cold ones," embry explained gently.

"so like, their blood circulation is horrible? or they have ice powers? because they were definitely not human."

"no, nixie, they're vampires. vampires that drink animal blood, but vampires all the same." paul rubbed his thumb on top of phoenix's hand, trying desperately to keep his temper and wolf in check.

"they were fine with the little bit of light there was, though. they didn't suddenly burst into flames."

"they sparkle like freaking disco balls." embry nuzzled his nose into his imprint's neck, seeking the comfort she exuded.

"so they're glittery animal eating zombies?"

"pretty much." paul snorted lightly.

phoenix pouted, "poor bambi."

how was that? like i said at the beginning, embry shifted earlier here because i really wanted phoenix to have a good relationship with the cullens. also, awwwww omigod i love phoenix and embry and paul's dynamic! i'm gonna cry because i love them so, so much.
