The Truth
It was dark, wet, and silent. I was breathing incredibly hard after trying to escape. Now here I was, hiding behind a dumpster that smelled like two week old seafood, and in an empty alley just hoping that someone is looking for me. Then, I heard the police sirens race by the alley. They were looking for me! It warmed my heart a little to think that I may get out of this situation alive.

Before I go any further, my name is Kate and I am sixteen years old. I live in a foster care because my parents died when I was ten. I have been traveling house to house looking for someone to adopt me so that I can say I have a family again. Then, when I came to this one foster family, the clues about my past started to unravel. I found pictures of my parents in some old books in the house and asked around to see if anyone knew where they came from. No one knew where they had came from. That’s where this all began.

Once the police sirens pasted, it was silent again, too silent. Then, I heard it the sound of someone coming closer, “splash, splash, splash.” What was I going to do? There was no where to run and no where to hide. I was trapped. The footsteps stopped, right in front of the dumpster. My mind was racing ,trying to think of ways to escape.I couldn’t think of anything. The only option was to either run and take the risk of getting killed, or just surrender and stay alive a little longer. I couldn’t decide. Then, the person said,” I have been looking for you for quite some time now, Kate. I know you have been quite curious lately about what happened to your parents; and I have all the answers you have been looking for. All you have to do is come with me. But, if you decide not to then I have no choice but to capture you and take you where you will never be found again.” That’s when I decided that I should just surrender if I wanted to live.
“Okay.” I said coming out from behind the dumpster slowly.” I’ll come with you, but how do I know you’re not lying.”
“You’re just going to have to trust me with this.” The man dressed in an all outfit.
Once I had come out completely, he grabbed my hands to make sure that I wouldn’t try to escape. He loaded me into a black car with completely black tinted windows. I had no idea where I was going, but it couldn’t be good. But this was the only option unless I wanted to die alone with no one having any idea of where I was.
That’s when I smelled oil. I figured I was at some oil plant. Then we stopped, they made me get out of the car and walked me into a dark building. It looked like it had been abandoned for twenty years. They sat me in a chair and tied my hands together. The room had no windows, and the only way to leave was from a door to the right of me, which was guarded by armed guards, I observed the room some more. That’s when I noticed two people tied together around a beam that held up the ceiling. They looked tired and hungry. As I looked closer I could make out a man and a woman. They looked to be about in their mid-forties. A guard was then ordered to bring them next to me/ Once they sat down I got a better look at them. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing, it was my mother and my father. They had been missing for six years and I had finally found them.
They both looked up at me at the same time. “Kate?” They said in very soft voices.
“Yes!” I said, tears rolling down my cheeks.
“We are so sorry we got you into this.” My father said in a saddened tone. “ We thought you would be safer if you weren’t around us.”
“What are you talking about?” I asked curiously.
“You are the one they want not us. They figured if they captured us then we would tell them where you where. But we didn’t.” He said.
“What would they want with me?” I asked.
“Kate.” My mother said in a soft voice.”You are not as normal as you thought you were. You see when you were a baby you were kidnapped and had experiments done on you.”
“What your mother is trying to say is that they want you because you have the ability to never get ill. They want to do tests on you because you could change the world.” My father said.
“Exactly.” Said the man in dressed in all black. “Now where do we begin?”
