Y/N

I walked around the hospital corridors, while they were visiting my father, I was aimlessly doing nothing.

It wasn't that I didn't want to see him. I just wasn't ready.

I've seen him in many broken states before but none as worst as what I caught a glimpse of. He looked lost, weak, broken. He was the opposite of what I used to remember as a child, a strong, proud father, where did he go? When did everything turn south.

I let out a sigh and turned into another hallway, I bumped into someone and used the wall as support as I regained balance.

"Sorry, I wasn't paying attention." I apologized. I looked up and there was a woman who was looking at me with a shocked look on her face.

"Y/N?" She asks and I raised an eyebrow.

"Do I know you?"

"It's me! Avery! Remember? From university?" She smiles and her face immediately popped into my mind.

"Oh my god! It's been so long!" I smiled and took in her new look. She was wearing high heels, killer jeans and a blouse. She looked like she was heading to work after this. But more importantly she got rid of the glasses, straightened her curly hair and put on makeup which gave her a natural look. She looked like a goddess now. "You look so different I almost didn't recognize you."

"You haven't changed a bit. You still look the same, what's your secret?" She grins and I blushed at the compliment. "What are you doing here? I thought you left Korea."

"I came back yesterday." I answered. "My dad's in the hospital and my mom asked me to come back."

"Ooh, sorry to hear that." She frowns but then she instantly smiles again. "Does that mean your kids are here too? You sent me a picture of them when they were born but I haven't gotten in contact with you ever since."

"They are and they're adorable. Follow me, I'll take you." I motioned her to follow me and we walked back to my fathers hospital room. "Do you work in the hospital or something?"

Avery shook her head and pointed to her leg. "I broke my leg a month ago, I took the cast off a while ago and I'm here for the followup. I gotta go to work after this."

I nodded and we arrived at the door. I took a deep breath before reaching for the handle and opening the door. I walked inside and I bit my lip when I made eye contact with my father.

Avery must've noticed because she patted my back. During the one week we were friends we've gotten really close, enough for me to tell her about my father.

"Y/N..." He said weakly and I slowly approached the hospital bed. His eyes shift to Avery and back to me.

"She's a friend I ran into." I explain and whisper to the kids. "How about you go meet mommy's friend Avery? Go with grandma."

The nodded and they left leaving me alone with my father.

"Y/N... I'm-"

"Don't." I cut him off. "I told you to stop smoking and drinking, look where it led you."

"I know." He lowers his head ashamed, I sat on the chair next to his bed and folded my arms over my chest.

"I also don't want to hear an apology." I say and he looks at me hesitantly. "I've already forgiven you."

A sad smile forms on his face and he relaxes a little. "I regret everything that I have ever done. The pain to your mother, on you. I don't deserve forgiveness."
