Once I could fly,
Could reach for the sky,
Saw the stars and felt warmth,
Felt as if I belonged
- to this world.

Once I spread my wings
And let go,
Of all that's pushing me,
Holding me down below,
Spread my wings and left
- all that kept me down.

Then came the storms,
The winds, they were strong,
They clipped my wings,
And I couldn't go on,
So I fell and crashed down
- on this earth.

Broken I lay
And my back bled,
Only scars left
Where my wings used to be,
So I lay there and cried
- for all that I lost.

But I had to go on,
Had to get up,
So I got on my feet,
And I learned to walk,
Now I can run
And every once in a while,
It feels like I'm flying
- mile after mile.
