One look in your eyes
I can tell you wear a mask
I know that you hide,
who you really are.
Then you meet my gaze,
and it falls broken to the ground.
This is my power,
you're yourself once I'm around.
Life is only just a masquerade,
All about people pretending to be
what they don't really are,
But I look in their eyes
and let the masks fall,
dancing alone at this endless ball.
He smiles and laughs,
but that's just his mask,
he's crying and broken,
doesn't dare to show,
He meets my eye, how do I know?
Here his emotions lie blank,
now everyone can see,
the reason for that might have been me.
Life is only just a masquerade,
All about people pretending to be
what they don't really are,
But I look in their eyes
and let the masks fall,
dancing alone at this endless ball.
She acts all shy and innocent,
she tries to be the good one,
inside she longs to be a man,
fearless, fighting, running.
One look and she's herself,
she stopped to care about the rules,
the expectations do not count,
she's never been more true.
Life is only just a masquerade,
All about people pretending to be
what they don't really are,
But I look in their eyes
and let the masks fall,
dancing alone at this endless ball.
As all the masks shatter,
break on the hard ground,
There's only me left,
and nobody guessed
that in truth I am like them,
I rip off their masks,
and yet all the same,
I keep mine in place.
Life is only just a masquerade,
All about people pretending to be
what they don't really are,
But I look in their eyes
and let the masks fall,
dancing alone at this endless ball.
