4 | "THE TRUE SEEING IS WITHIN."

     ALICE WASNT USED to a quiet  house. Anne was going on a trip with the Barry's but Alice decided t not go. She needed to have a peaceful time but that wasnt true as she walked downstairs to see 'Mr Dunlop' or 'Jonesey', as she had found out, taking the gun out of the cabinet.

Alice quickly ran outside and past Marilla to find Jerry. She didnt know what she would say to him, she was too scared to say anything. She met the boy in the barn and just spent the day with him, they didnt speak of much, Alice just helped him with the work until Nate arrived.

"Hey kids. Thought you were off you Charlotte Town." Nate said as Jerry stood infront of Alice. "Still learning to spell? So?' He asked after a silence.

Alice watched as he drank some alcohol from a bottle. Alice knew that the liquid was bad for ones body and mind yet the man continued to drink it.

"Y-E-S or N-O?"

"Oui." Jerry replied quietly.

"What, you never seen booze before? And you a Frenchy? Thought they started you early in this stuff."

"We dont keep alcohol in the house. We're, we're Catholic." Jerry stuttered.

"Come here." The two didnt move an inch. "Come, sit with me. Sit with me little froggy!"

Jerry slowly moved towards the man, scared of what he may do if he didn't follow his orders, he was the adult here. Nate pulled the boy towards him and smirked at Alice. He motioned her over, she moved slowly and he made her sit infront if the boys.

"There we are." He gave the flask to Jerry. "There you go, hmm? Drink up, it'll make work go faster."

"No thank you."

"Have a taste." Jerry moved his head to the side and away from the liquid. "What? You scared?"

"No."

"Then drink. Come on, it'll put hair on your chest."

"Get off him!" Alice finally shouted at Nate.

His attention turned to Alice and he glared harshly at her. He got into her face and looked her up and down, his hand resting on her hip. She pushed him away and pulled Jerry up.

Nate watched the pair. "Too young anyway." He mumbled before walking away.

Jerry hugged Alice as she began to cry. She hugged back and tried to stop but it only make it worse. Soon she did stop and went inside to be away from everyone, she locked herself in her room while Jerry went to the barn.

     MARILLA GENTLY KNOCKED on Alice's door. She slowly opened the door and looked at the woman infront of her.

"Hello Marilla."

"Hello, Alice. I just come to ask if you're having trouble about the boarders?"

Alice looked down a little. "A little but I didnt know what to say. I heard them speak last night."

Marilla soon got what Alice had heard from the two boarders. The girl continued to stay in her room for the rest of the night and Marilla understood so she brought her the dinner. It would be a one time thing in this house hold.
