"I hope you decide to join us on your eighteenth birthday."

It was something her father had said to her more than anything. He prayed that his only child would follow in his footsteps in hope to carry out the ritual when the time came and so she may live on for eternity with him.
Her father told her many times about the Child of the Abomination and how killing him would be the start of their prophecy. This person was the only thing standing in the way of the Plague of Shadows from consuming the Earth, allowing the cult members to become one with him, to reincarnate on every planet he overcomes.
It was how she was raised. She was raised to believe in the Plague of Shadows and that he is the key to immortality. She has been told from day one, that if she decides not to join the Devourers of God, that she will die like everyone else not in the cult.
(Y/N) walked into school that morning and sat in the cafeteria with her friends, waiting for the starting bell to ring. She had been in the same friend group since middle school. Ashley Campbell has been her neighbor since she moved in ten years ago. Not long after she had met Larry Johnson, as well as Todd Morrison. They were a close knit group of friends, doing everything together. Most of them had classes together, they all ate lunch together, and usually hung out at the Addison Apartments together.
The Addison Apartments were more than just such. They were home of one of the several temples for the Devourers of God. The main hub was located underneath the Phelps Ministry on top of the hill near Wendigo Lake. (Y/N) had only been inside once when she was younger.
"I heard there's a new kid!" Ashley exclaimed from her spot across from (Y/N). Her long brown hair was pulled back neatly today, a different approach than her normal free flowing waves. "Doesn't he live at the apartments?"
Todd and Larry nodded simultaneously. "Yeah, I met him yesterday. He's a pretty cool dude, yet he wears this mask. It's kinda freaky the first time, but you get used to it." Larry said, taking a bite of the muffin he bought for breakfast. (Y/N) watched as the crumbs fell onto the table. She felt her hand twitch under the table at the mention of the new students unique features. It couldn't be him, could it?
"Why does he wear a mask?" Ashley asked, turning her gaze towards the long haired boy to her right. Larry took another bite of his food before opening his mouth to reply.
"He said it's a prosthetic? I've never seen a facial prosthetic so I'm not sure." He shrugged his shoulders at the thought. It if was the right person, (Y/N) knew exactly why he wore the mask.
She remembers the story well, as her father reminds her every year. The Child of the Abomination. The person who has the power to stop the Plague of Shadows from completing its quest on Earth. His name was Sal Fisher, son to Henry and Diane Fisher.
Her father failed to rid the world of the Child of the Abomination several years ago. He had finally tracked the child down. He sat with his family near the woods on the outskirts of their hometown. A lovely picnic was set up upon the hill where a small Sal and a young Diane sat, playing with several toys. (Y/N)'s father drew the young boy into the woods.
"Mommy! Mommy! Can I go pet the doggy?"
"Sally! Don't go to far!"
It was her fathers chance, he took it, yet failed. He pointed the gun at the small child, pulling the trigger. It felt like minutes before the muzzle exploded, sending a cloud of smoke and power towards the small child. Her father failed to account for a mother's love and what she would do to protect her child.
Once he realized what he had done, he vanished out into the woods, distancing himself from the crime scene. After that, he had lost sight of the child for many years, and even still until this day. Yet, (Y/N) believes she has finally found him.
"There he is now!" Larry said, motioning to the short, blue haired boy, walking their way. "I told him he could sit with us, if that's okay?"
"Yeah!" Ashley exclaimed, "Why wouldn't it?" She asked the question rhetorically, not expecting an answer as the masked teen walked over to their table. He looked just as her father had described. Blue hair, blue eyes. There weren't many people with that hair combination around here.
"Hey." He said, giving a small wave to the table. "Mind if I sit wit you guys?"
"Sure! You can sit there next to (Y/N)." Ashley said, motioning towards the empty seat between Larry and (Y/N). "I'm Ashley by the way, but you can call me Ash."
"Sal, but you can call me Sally or Sally Face." He said, confirming (Y/N)'s speculations. It was him.

"How was school?" (Y/N)'s father asked as she walked through the door of their home. She flung her book bag to the ground and kicked her shoes off, walking over to her father who sat at the dining table, working on some stack of papers.
"He's here." She said, looking down at her father. "Sal Fisher."
"You're kidding." He said, a sinister smile curling into his lips. His eyes brightened with desire for a moment before fading back. "It seems as if everything is falling into place."
"People are going to notice if he goes missing. He's... very memorable." She said, making a mental note of all the talk about the new boy with the mask. "Your failed attempt sure left him scarred. He wears a mask to hide it."
"Well, we can't kill him just yet. The Plague is dormant. He won't be awoken for two more years."
(Y/N) cocked an eyebrow at her father. "Why can't you just kill him now? Why does the Plague have to be awake?"
"Because we need the blood of the Child to start the ritual, as well as the blood of four others, plus a host for the Plague to manifest in." He said, closing his folder of papers.
She nodded, "Well, he's in my friend group at school."
"Well, that's perfect. Get close to him. Maybe this time we won't fail."
"You're going to use me as bait?" She asked. She expected it, honestly, as she normally was the bait in these types of situations. It wasn't the first time she had found someone to be used for the Plague's use.
"Well, of course." He said. "You're so good at it. I know you will succeed. Enough business talk, what do you want for dinner?"
