SCARLETT'S POV
I was finally on my way home from work on Monday. Mr. McConnor was running around frantically, he said he was preparing for a "big client," but truthfully I've never seen him freak out like this before. All of that extra stress, and he put it all on me. I pulled the elastic hairband from my hair, letting my hair fall out of the bun and cascade down my back in the loose waves the bun created. All of a sudden I felt my phone vibrating in my bag. I stopped in the middle of the sidewalk to dig my phone out of my bag.
"Mace?" I said when I answered the call. I knew she had my number, but we've never contacted each other outside of the The Lounge. Why was she calling me now?
"Hey, Scarlett. I wanted to call and let you know there was a guy at the bar asking about you right after you left on Saturday."
My breath hitched in my throat. What does she mean?
"What?" Was all I could respond with.
"Yeah, it was weird. He was super hot! I tried flirting with him, but when you left he came up to me and asked about you. I played it off as you just come here often but I figured I'd let you know." She said, all quite fast.
"W-well what d-did he l-look like?" I stuttered stupidly.
"The stereotypical tall, dark, and handsome. He had a really hot body, slight stubble on his face, dark hair, tattoos on his arms and hands..."
No. It couldn't be.
"Oh yeah, and he had these piercing green eyes." The second she said that, my phone fell out of my hand and clattered on the sidewalk. People passing by looked at me with confused stares. I stood there, in a state of shock until I heard a faint "Hello?" I hurriedly picked the phone off the ground, not even inspecting it for cracks.
"Yeah, hey, sorry. Um, listen I have to go, but thank you for telling me. I'll lay low for a while." I said as I hung up the phone. I slipped the phone back in my bag and examined my surroundings. Busy city streets with people running to and fro. Taxi's and cars drove by honking. The world around me seemed to be moving fast while I was stuck in slow-motion. My heartbeat sped up and I thought I was suffocating. I felt the sudden urge that I was being followed so I hurriedly made my way home.
"Sorry Mr. McConnor, I can't come in Tomorrow, I have a very important doctor appointment that I can't miss." I said into the phone. Mr. McConnor mumbled something angrily before hanging up without a response. The doctor's appointment was in the morning and I knew I could probably have gone in to work later in the day, but I'm still freaked out by what Mace told me on the phone earlier and think I just need the extra break. I spent a relaxed night in, I made dinner for everyone and we sat around and watched a very gruesome action movie that will most likely give Jordie nightmares. Dammit. Why did I let him pick the first action movie he saw.
"Don't forget about your appointment tomorrow morning, Mom." I said as we all parted ways to go to bed. "And Jordie, brush your teeth!" I heard a grumble from the other room.
"I'll be up bright and early, thank you dear." She said with a large smile on her face as she walked into her bedroom.
"Goodnight Scar! I love you!" I heard Jordie yelling from the other room, I smiled and yelled the same thing back before drifting into a very vivid sleep full of dreams of a certain someone that seems to be haunting me.
"Jordie, you're going to have to walk to school by yourself today. I'm sorry I can't go with you, but Mom has that appointment and you know how long it takes her to get down the stairs." I said as he chowed down on his cereal. As he was eating I quickly got ready, throwing my hair into a messy bun and pulling on a pair of ripped jeans and a black hoodie, not even bothering with makeup.
