chapter two: the fair

We sat down in front of the lake and I opened the bag of bread and passed Faith a slice. I took mine and ripped it into five chunks. I through one at a duck and stuck one in my mouth. I saw that Faith threw one into the water. A little duckling ate it. I thought that was the cutest thing I had ever seen. Faith seemed to think so too. She was smiling, then I saw her back straighten and stiffen up. Her smile immediately dropped. A few seconds later a scary looking man was coming our way. I looked at Faith she was sweating. My mind was too preoccupied to think much of it. I was scared shitless. This guy just had intimidation coming of him in waves. He looked over at Faith. His face just got angry. A pure unadulterated anger. I looked up at him when he spoke and so did Faith. "What are you doing out here?" His voice was very angry and deep. He kind of rumbled and growled while talking.

"I am feeding the ducks with my friend, right Lea?" I nodded. She seemed to know this guy. He looked angry. Scratch that, very angry. He took hold of Faith's arm and pulled her into a standing posistion.

"Well now you are going home to your father." Faith gave me an appologetic look before heading to this guy's car, and apparantly to her parents house. I thought that she should be allowed to go where ever she felt like going because she looked to be around 17 or 18. I decided not to think to much about it and hope that this guy isn't a murderer.

Two days later I got a text. I didn't recognize the number so I opened it.

Hey,  it's Faith. I feel like hanging out today. Could you please text me back soon.

How could I forget. I gave Faith my number just a little before she got taken away by that scary man. I quickly typed a reply.

Sure. Ooh, and I know just where to go. Meet me at the park entrance at 1.

I got up and ready to meet Faith. Today we are going to the fair! I haven't gone there in a while, and going with Faith is a plus. I threw on a nice, pastel colored,flowy top, and my darkest pair of mid thigh shorts. No, I don't have a thigh gap, I'm a chubby person okay. I braided my hair back and tied two sky blue bows to the ends. I evaluated myself in the mirror. I deemed myself prepared, of course I still needed to put my shoes on. I held my white toms in my right hand and brought them down to the kitchen with me. I had made it a habit to only put my shoes on in the living room, keeping the house clean.

It was a while before I headed out to meet her. I grabbed my keys off the table, wrapped a sweater around my hips, and took my leave. The walk from my house to the convience store was short, I could see it just down the street. As I was running towards it I could see a figure become clearer. It was Faith! It seemed she haden't noticed me yet, so I jumped on her back, enveloping her in a big hug. Well I really couldn't envelope her, more like stick to her because I was so much smaller than her. I was embarassingly short okay. This resulted in her almost tipping over. Thank goodness she was close to the wall. She screamed really loudly in surpise. It's funny, her scream is really girly even though she looks so tough. She was wearing black, frayed, short shorts and a black, band tee with the sleeves cut off. She had her long, ebony hair in a high, tight, pony tail that reached her waist.

"Why the fuck would you jump on my back?! What happened to a simple hello?!" Her face was red with an exasperated expression. She must have been very upset. All I could do was flinch and raise my hands to protect my face. I peered at her through my fingers and saw that she wasn't mad anymore. She was more amused, I would say. I chanced an awkward smile and was relived to see her crack a smile. "Okay, where are we going today?" She looked happy.

"We are going to the fair! It just reopened on Friday, two days ago. I'm getting Oliver to drive us there."
