Carson's POV
Personally, I think Piper and Mack would make a cute couple. I mean, Mack is full on gay while Piper is pansexual. But if I'm honest, Piper is totally gay. They say they hate each other but really, this whole hatred thing between them...is really them just teasing and messing with each other. Oh and you know what everyone says, if someone teases you constantly it means they like you.
Piper and Mack aren't that different either. They both love sports, they both are good at sports. They both love subjects like science, and they also are both fairly smart in math. I mean, they are both in the advanced math classes. They also both live for Netflix shows. Or superhero shows/movies. I've heard them both go on for hours about the new superhero movies.
They are a different type of person that you don't encounter. The popular jock nerd. They're very popular. They're very athletic. And yet they're both nerds. It would be a love story you don't encounter often. Not some, nerd and jock. Not some, popular and lonely kid. A love story about the popular kid that's a jock and nerd, and another popular kid that's a jock and a nerd.
Whenever I'm over at Pipers house, I'll sometimes purposely mention Mack. One day during lacrosse practice, Mack and Mia changed into their uniforms pretty close to us. Maybe a few lockers away. That day I went to Pipers house and said how Mack had a six pack and Piper just scoffed.
Piper doesn't want to admit it, but she knows Mack is actually a super chill person. I actually want to be Mack's friend but Piper makes me hate her. No matter what, I'm forced to hate Mack. It sucks too.
After practice was over, we went to the cafe. Man, I loved this place. It's like a diner right out of the 60's. I love it so much. They only play 50's and 60's music right from a jukebox. Most of the athletes come here late at night to hang out and goof off with buddies. Me and my boyfriend, Jake, come here quite often.
I'm surprised I even have a boyfriend since I'm shaped like an actual door. But Jake is an amazing person. He's so kind and so funny. He also has a dog named Buffy. Buffy is a golden doodle and he's the cutest thing alive. I love Jake so much and I'm so lucky to have him.
"Carson! Piper! What can I get you two?" A voice asked.
I turned to a girl who was standing by our booth, ready for our order. "Tracy! Hey! It's been a minute. How've you been? Oh and I'll take a vanilla milkshake, a small fry and a cheeseburger."
Tracy wrote it all down while she spoke. "I've been great. After Troy cheated on me, I left town for a while to recollect myself. Now I'm back and it's going great!"
"That's amazing! I'm really sorry about Troy by the way." I responded awkwardly.
Piper straightened the edges of her letterman jacket and put down her menu. "I'll just have a Coke and the chicken tenders."
Tracy laughed. "Ah, your usual. Just a Coke and chicken."
Piper smirked. "Hey you can't blame me, they taste like dino nuggets."
Tracy began to walk away. "You're not wrong. I'll have your drinks out right away."
Piper sighed and peered out the window. Something was up with her, but I didn't know exactly what it was. She's usually always a happy and outgoing girl.
"Hey what's up with you today?" I asked leaning forward in my seat.
Piper never took her eyes away from the window. "I'on know."
"How about I ask Jake to come hang out. He always makes you laugh!" I offered.
She just looked at the floor and shrugged. "I guess so."
I pulled out my phone and texted him:
Carson: hey babe, Piper is feeling down rn so you should come to the diner and cheer her up :)
Jake: i'll be there in a few. did you ask her what was wrong?
Carson: yeah. she didn't say much.
Jake: aww I hope she doesn't stay sad :(
I put my phone up and looked back up to Piper. "He'll be here in a few minutes."
Piper nodded and started tapping the table with her fingers. "D-d-d-duh-duh-DUN-dun. Dun-dun-dun-dundun-dundun."
"Mario?" I asked.
She flashed a small and short smile. "Yeah.
I held up a hand. "My turn. Duuun-dundun-duuun-dun-dun-dunnn."
Piper tapped her chin for a moment. "Gravity Falls. That was easy."
Tracy came up next to us with our drinks. "Vanilla Milkshake for Carson. Coke for Piper. Your food will be out soon."
After she walked away, I started to talk again. "But really, what's up? Did someone say something? Do something? Whats wrong?"
Piper stirred her drink with her straw and then took a sip. She moved her hand to her side shakily. "I'm just so tired of this whole competition thing between me and Mack. Sure, it's fun sometimes, but it's so much pressure and I hate it. Mack isn't a bad person most of the time, so I don't know why I have to hate her."
I cleared my throat and nodded. "What DID happen between your family and hers?"
Piper looked around nervously and sighed. "Adler vs Nash. My parents vs hers. It was on West 5th Street. My parents in their 1986 red corvette and her parents in their 1988 blue corvette. They decided to race down the road. It started as a friendly race until her parents tried running my parents off the road. They decided to try to run each other off the road, my parents car spun into a tree knocking them out and breaking my dads collarbone, her parents car ending upside down in a ditch. Her parents had her dads dog in the car and it died. It also broke her moms arm and her dads leg."
"Oh. Yeah that's rough. Did it total either of the cars?" I asked.
"Both." She responded.
"Yikes. I guess that's a....valid reason to hate each other." I said.
"But...after all these years? No, it's dumb!" Piper replied angrily.
I scratched my head awkwardly and decided to not speak until Jake got to the diner.
