Piper's POV

Mack and I laid on the gym floor, staring at the ceiling. She started drawing invisible patterns into the floor with her finger.

I turned onto my stomach and grabbed my phone. We had both already texted our parents that we'd be "spending the night with our friends." We couldn't tell them that we were both together and alone trapped inside a gymnasium.

They'd freak out and go ballistic on each other.

I turned my attention towards Mack, who was now also laying on her stomach. Her face made a nasty and hurt look. She held so much pain her in her eyes. She was also holding her phone, and a message was present of the screen.

"What's up?" I asked her in a quiet and calm voice.

"I-it's just...." She started. Her voice broke several times through that small sentence. She looked up at me and I gave her a caring and worried look.

"Just read it." She said.

I read the message. It was an offensive and very rude text. "Who is it from? Who's Jaylen?" I questioned.

"She's-well she's my ex-girlfriend. We broke up last summer. I just, I don't know how to explain it." She sighed.

I looked at my hands and folded them so she knew I was listening. "Hey, you don't have to tell me everything. Y'know, my ex-girlfriend called me one day and-"

"Wait. You're gay? I always thought you were." She interrupted.

I gave her a "what the hell" look. "No, I'm not gay. I'm pansexual. And why would you care if I was gay?"

"I always thought you were cute in middle school." She answered.

I turned away and laughed. "I was still straight in middle school. Or deep in the closet."

She laughed and nudged me. "Y'know, I came out to my parents in kindergarten."

"What? How did you even know?" I asked chuckling.

"Well I told my mom I had a crush. She got excited and asked who. I said that her name was Kayleigh." She responded.

"Huh. What did she say?"

"She said, oh honey! Girls are for boys and boys are for girls! No liking girls!"

"Yikes. Is she homophobic?"

Mack gave a small, "Kinda."

"That sucks. My mom and dad are supportive of me. Which is amazing." I said proudly.

Mack looked down and pushed her hair back. She put her face down on the clothes pillow we had made.

Since I had pajamas, I had changed into those in the locker room. Her and I had also found some unopened blankets in the closet. They were leftover from senior lock-in last year. There were about 30, so we piled them as our "mattress" on top of some of those gymnastics mats. We then created a giant blanket for us two. We also used our clothes, as said earlier, as makeshift pillows.

We laid in comfortable silence for a few minutes. Neither of us said a word. We were both lost in our mind. I don't know what she was thinking, but for some reason I was thinking about her.

She had a curly beach wave type hair. Her hair and eyes matched; dark brown. But one thing I'd noticed is that when the sun hit her eyes, they lit up. Like a burning wild fire was lit right inside them. She had an hourglass shape and the type of hands that men have. I found it very attractive.

"Can I just like, hug you?" She said interrupting my thoughts.

"Huh?" I asked a little unaware of what she'd said.

"Nevermind." She mumbled.

"We should go to bed and call Carson and Mia in the morning." I mentioned turning away from her.

She got very silent and nodded.

The gym lights had already been turned off by us, so all we had to do was relax and fall asleep.

I was almost asleep when Mack said, "Hey, Piper?"

I turned over to look at her. I could only see the outline shape of her. "Yeah?"

She quickly pulled me in and gave me a hug. "Thank you."

I smiled, but she didn't see. I turned back around. "You're welcome." I whispered.
