"just turn left here and pull over. i'll walk the rest of the way." mason instructed.

autumn did as she was told and pulled over after turning left. mason opened the car door and out his foot out. autumn reached for his arm.

"wait!" she called to him.

he turned back to her and smiled slightly, "that would be the second time you've told me to wait."

"and that would be the second time you've smiled," she returned the expression then continued, "can i have your number?"

mason took her offered phone and tapped in his digits. he gave it back to her, leaving her.

autumn drove herself home.

-

"autumn!" her mum shouted as she walked in through the front door.

her mother entered the hallway with crossed arms and raised eyebrows.

"yes sheryl?" autumn sighed, using her mothers first name, which she knew she hated.

"what time do you call this?" sheryl accused.

"chill out, mum. it's only eleven." autumn roller her eyes.

"room, now! no going out tomorrow after school, either! this rain obsession of yours has to stop!"

autumn ignored her mother and walked the stairs to her bedroom. she shut the door, letting herself fall on her bed. she retrieved her phone from her bag and searched for mason's name.

"found it!" she grinned.

something about this poor boy had her hooked.

"i'll send him one text." she muttered to herself.

autumn: hey mason, it's autumn. please don't die tonight. x

she awaited a minute or so on his reply to be received. when her phone buzzed she quickly unlocked it.

mason: i'll try my best. x

a wide smile grew on her face.
