Chapter 2 - Gravity don't mean too much to me
I watch Frank grinning madly as he gets his photo taken. I can't help but laugh. He is the craziest twin a girl could ever have. I sweep some of my dark hair from my face, and step over to the photographer.
"Smile!" He says. I don't show my teeth - I simply turn the corners of my mouth up a little. The photographer sighs, but lets me go.
"I told you not to be moody." Frank says, putting me in a headlock and ruffling my hair. I laughs and jokingly punch him in the arm. He releases me as Ray wanders over.
"I freaking hate school photo day!" He shouts. "I'll look stupid as usual!"
"Hey, relax, you look fine!" I smile.
"Come on, let's go and find Mikey and Gee." Frank says.
We meet the two brothers by the side of the football field, where the cheerleading squad are practising. One of them, Terrie, runs over to us, giggling wildly.
"Hi Gerard." She smiles like an idiot and twirls some hair around her finger.
"Uh, hi Terrie." Gerard replies blankly.
"You look nice today!" She really looks like an idiot when she acts dumb. On second thoughts, she's probably not acting.
"Thanks, I guess."
"So... wanna go out for dinner sometime?"
"No offence Terrie, but I really can't." She frowns.
"And why the hell not?"
"Because... because..." He freezes. I think on the spot, so I wrap my arm around his neck.
"Because he's mine." I say. Gerard gives me a smirk and wraps his arm around my waist. My heart beats faster.
"Yeah, that's right!" He exclaims. Terrie doesn't seem to believe us. Maybe she's smarter than she looks.
"Oh really? Doesn't look much like it!" She snorts. "I don't believe it for a fucking second!"
Gerard turns to face me and puts both his hands on my waist. My heart thumps right out of my chest. What is he doing?
"Don't believe it Terrie?" He says. "Well, believe this." Gerard pauses for a second, then leans down and kisses me straight on the lips. I'm taken aback for a few seconds, and my stomach flips itself over and over. I kiss him back, pulling him closer, not wanting the moment to end. Gerard is perfect, the way his lips lock into mine, the way he runs his fingers through my hair, it couldn't be more wonderful. I hear Terrie let out a cry of frustration and storm off. Gerard pulls away and takes his arms off me. I do the same.
"Looks like we got rid of her." He grins. Frank stares at both of us in bewilderment.
"Dude... you just kissed my sister. You have got some explaining to do!" He says.
"Oh, come on, Frank!" Gerard replies. "It was only to get rid of Terrie! Relax!" My heart drops. I knew it. I knew he didn't really like me. It was just because of another girl.
"Thanks for stepping in Ella. I can't stand Terrie, but I really can't bring myself to say no." He glances at me and smiles. "Maybe you should try out for the cheerleading squad." I can't help but laugh.
"Me? A cheerleader? Piss off Gee." I say jokingly.
"I was just saying. You have the right... build for it." The others laugh loudly, and I smirk.
"Why, thank you. But that's like me saying you could be a football player." Gee grins.
"Wow, you're so kind."
"I know."
We walk back to class, and I sit next to Mikey in advanced maths. I almost fall asleep it's so boring! Mikey nudges me as my eyes begin to droop.
"Ella... Ella!" He whispers sharply. My eyes snap open.
"What?"
"Nothing... you were falling asleep."
"No shit, sherlock." I reply. He lets out a small laugh and doesn't talk for a while.
"You really like him, don't you?"
"Who?" I say. Mikey has been really random after his concussion.
"Gerard. When you kissed him, you looked so... happy. Like there was nothing better." I nod. Mikey knows me too well.
"But he doesn't like me. So it doesn't matter what I feel." I sigh.
"You'd be surprised. Gerard's very complex. Even I don't know what he's feeling sometimes." He pauses. "But I'll help you. I'll help you get him."
"You'd do that for me?"
"Of course I would, El. you're my best friend." I smile. I didn't realise Mikey thought of me as a best friend.
"Way, Iero, pay attention!" My teacher shouts. But I honestly couldn't care less. One day, if I'm lucky, I'll get Gerard. If Mikey has anything to do with it.
