"Maleah, there is no way you are going out at this time, especially in that dress! You are too young for that!" Mum shouts at me as I grab the door handle.
"Mum, please! The lads just finished the AMA's and Harry wants to take me to dinner to celebrate! Please let me go. I'm eighteen. You know me. I promise not to do anything irresponsible!" I groan. She crosses her arms. The boys won all three awards that they were nominated for.
"No way, no how!" She walks up to me and shuts the door just as Harry's new Range Rover pulls up in the drive. His knock soon sounds on the door. "Up to your room, now." She orders. I sigh and sadly make my way up the stairs, kicking my heels off at the bottom steps. But I don't completely obey. Very quietly, I set myself uncomfortably on the stairs.
"Hello, Harry."
"Hello, Miss Briggs. How lovely it is to see you this evening." Harry charms. I hear an exasperated sigh from my mother.
"Now, Harry, you know she's not allowed out after ten."
"I am certainly aware, ma'am. And I was wondering if you could make just one exception for tonight. It is, indeed a special night." I take a peek around the corner and marvel at him. His suit is so fitting. Not the usual black or white, but a brownish-red suit with a brown tie, and it looks perfect with his curls and most certainly makes his eyes glitter in the night.
"Fine. But she must be home by one. If not, her time will be backed up to nine... Maleah! Come down please!" Mum shouts. I grin and take my time standing up then run down, grabbing my shoes. The dress tries to slide upward as I lean over to slip on the heels, but somehow, I manage to keep it in control.
"I can go?" I widen my eyes at my mother. She hesitantly nods, and I throw myself at her for a hug, careful not to mess up my makeup or hair. "Thank you so much, Mum! I love you so much!" I squeeze her and she hugs back, releasing me with a big grin.
"Go. Have fun. But not too much! I'll be calling Liam to keep an eye on you two." Mum smiles and waves us out the door. I nearly buzz with excitement as I follow Harry to his car, letting him help me up.
"M'lady... Tonight... You are in for an amazing night of surprises." Harry grins, starting the car and heading to who-knows-where.
