"Aaliyah?" I heard the voice of my sister call out. "You know your alarm been going off for the past 15 minutes, are you going to get up?"
Ughhhh!" I sighed as my alarm clock continuously rang. I was zoned out thinking about Khalil again. Today was the anniversary of his death. It had been two years ago since we lost him but to me it felt like he had been gone for ten.
Mom had cleared his room out back at her place, so the only thing left of his was his blue basketball jersey and a picture that I kept folded up under my pillow.
"Back to the bullshit again". I said as I got out of bed and headed to my bathroom to start my morning routine before work. I clock in at 7 am every day of the week like clockwork. I don't really like working at the nursing home, it was the last thing I wanted to be doing . The pay wasn't that bad though. I made 11/hr and it supported me and my little sister who was living with me at the moment.
I looked in the mirror as I stretched my tired limbs and yawned. "Lets go make this money Liyah." I said to myself as I started the shower.
15 minutes later I'm out the shower brushing my teeth and scrolling on facebook. I don't know why I procrastinate every morning and then have to rush to work.
"Goodmorning Aaliyah" my annoying coworker Ruby says. "Goodmorning Ruby, how are you today?" I usually try to avoid her because this girl can talk a wall to bordem. I head to the employees lounge to hang my purse and jacket up before I go check my list for today. I have rooms 103-109 today. Shouldn't be that bad.
"Heyyyyyy girl!" I hear a voice from behind me squeal. I turn around and see Alexcia approaching me with a hand full of bags like she's just been shopping. "What is all this Lexi?"
"You didn't think I would forget your Birthday Li now would you?" Oh yeah, did I forget to mention I just turned 23 today, whoopeeee! As you can tell I'm not big on celebrating my birthday because it was the same day Khalil died. I usually was never in the mood to celebrate.
"Thanks Lex, but you know you didn't have to bring all this stuff with you."
"Yeah I know but this is only half of it, just wait until later tonight. Girl I got us into VIP at Club Fiasco. We about to be on one tonight girl."
"When did I say that I was going to the club tonight?"
"Come on Li, you do this EVERY year on your birthday. I practically have to drag you to do anything on your birthday and yes I know what happened but you can't let his death stop you from ever living your life again. You need to have fun and start putting yourself first again"
I rolled my eyes. She always had to be dramatic but she had a point. Since my brother died I have let myself go. I would go days at time without taking a shower or brushing my teeth.
"Ok I'll go"
"Yaaaayyyy alright bitch the limo coming at 8:00 so be ready"
"Limo???Really Lex?"
