Chapter 2 - The Great Unknown

"Get lost, loser." A kid with brown haired and red eyes pushed you to the ground, and kicked dirt on you as his friends laughed. "You're a freak, you're not like us why don't you just die, (y/n)?"

"(Y/n)."

"(Y/n)."

"(Y/n)." You feel something shake you. "Hey man snap out of it." You come to your senses, seeing Issei standing in front of you. "Are you alright dude, you've been spaced out for like thirty minutes."

"Yeah I'm fine, I was just remembering something from my past."

"Ah, well anyways, I'm supposed to ask you to stop by the research club after school, today. Prez. Wants to talk to you."

"Alright tell her, I'll be there after I handle some student council stuff."

"Alright man, we'll see you there."

After school let out you head to a small shop on the outside of town, you enter into the shop and see guitars, guns, jewels, and televisions throughout the store.

'Are you sure about his (y/n)?' The tiny foxes voice echoed through your head.

'It's the only choice we have, they need the money.' You answered the fox, as you walk up to the counter and pull out the lustrous jewel from your bag.

"Where did you get something like this kid?" The shop keeper examines the jewel.

"I come from a wealthy family, and I just don't want this anymore."

'You're lying.'

'No, I'm just stretching the truth.'

"Alright well this is going to pain a pain to sell, it's worth money no doubt, but trying to sell something like this in this area is going to take time." He holds the jewel up. "That being said the best offer I can make is 4,000,000 yen." (About 36,520 USD)

"That's fine." The shop keeper walks to the back and comes back with the money and hands it to you.

"Have a good day."

"You too." You wave as you leave the store. You drop off an envelope containing 1,000,000 yen, with a letter at a house. "Rent is taken care of for the year. On to the Occult club." You head back to school and knock on the door to the club. A guy with blonde hair opens the door. "Kiba."

"(L/n)." You both glare at each other before smirking and laughing a little. "The President, is waiting for you this way. Kiba leads you down a halfway past a door with caution tape on it, and up to a large wooden door. He opens the door, and you see a large chested girl with long black hair that reaches past her back. A short girl with long blonde hair, and the two from last night Koneko and Issei.

"Thank you Kiba." The Red haired woman sitting on a desk said.

"First things first, thank you for saving and assisting Issei and Koneko last night."

"Don't mention it Rias." You look towards Koneko, and she snaps her head around.

"You're not getting a thank you from me." She said in her usual cold monotone voice.

"Just like old times." You laughed, before locking your eyes back on Rias. "Just sayings thanks wasn't the only reason you asked me here, I know you better then that Rias. So what else do you want?"

"I want you to join me as my second rook."

"I'll tell you the same thing I told you and Sona when we were younger. I roll solo like Han, That's how it's always been, and that's how it will stay, I like it that way."

"I didn't expect anything else from you." Rias closes her eyes as she stands up and walks over to you. She opens her eyes and looks directly into yours. "You still have that same look you had when we were children."

"Not sure if that's good or bad."

"Neither, I was just stating a fact." She takes a few steps back. "Thank you for saving them."

"No problem." You start to leave, but Issei stops you.

"Quick question, are part devil or someone? The way you owned that Fallen Angel, you have to be a devil right?"

"I'm hundred percent human." You wave as you walk out. "Bye Koneko." She ignored you as you walked past her. You leave the building, and everyone turns back towards Rias.

"Did you really think, he'd join us?" Akeno asked.

"No, his stance on joining anyone hasn't changed since that day." Rias answered.

"Do you guys have history with (y/n), or something." Issei asked.

"It's complicated." Kiba laughed.

"The long version is a story for another day, but..." Rias trailed on. "The short version is, (y/n), Sona and I grew up together in the underworld."

"Guess that would be complicated to get into." Issei looked out the window.

"Moving on, tonight you all have summons requests." Rias announces.

"Do we always have to meet like this?" A woman in her early to late twenties with brown hair, glasses, wearing a white blouse and a grey skirt asked as you stood on the edge of a building.

"He thinks it makes him look cool." The gold and sliver fox said as she sat next to the woman.

"I don't think, I know." You turn around. "Ms. Hagakuri..."

"Please (y/n) call me, Haru." She said as she picked up Kitsune, and pet her on the head.

"Okay, Haru, this is for you." She sets the fox down, and you hand her an envelope.

Her eyes grow wide, as she opens the envelope. "(Y/n), this is a lot of money, are sure about this?"

"It's three million yen to be exact." Kitsune runs up your arm and lays across your shoulders. "And yes, the orphanage needs it far more then I do."

Tears form in Haru's eyes. "Words can't describe how grateful I am, and the kids will be." She wipes the tears away. "How can I every repay you."

"Just make sure the orphanage stays open, and just do whatever you can to keep the kid's hope alive."

"I will!" He eyes are gleaming. "Thank you (y/n)!"

"Don't mention it." You jump off the building, landing on a building below and continuing until your on the other side of town.

"You're a giant softy." Kitsune teased.

"I just can't stand to see people suffering the way I did, especially those kids."
