The drive to the beach is just less than an hour. We were off on the road as soon as I had agreed on bringing another basket of food that Elena had prepared with Sarah in her kitchen.

For the first few minutes of the drive, I can tell that Sarah’s mind wanders somewhere I couldn’t tell. So I reached for her knee but as soon as I touched her bare skin, she offered her hand and entwined our fingers. She unbuckled her belt and scooted beside me. She kissed the back of my hand and nuzzled her nose to my arm and rested her head there.

“I wanted to hug you but that would be too distracting.” She silently chuckled. So I kissed the top of her forehead and squeezed her hand tighter.

“Is Calum’s place nice?” She looked up to me.

“Well,” I exhaled. “I guess so, we spend time there whenever he wishes so, it’s like our second home.. the band’s second home.”

She nodded while her cheek is still on my arm.

“Tell me what you’re thinking about.” I told her. She just shook her head sideways and pouted her lips.

“Come on, babe.” I slightly nudged her to keep her talking. She sighed, “I… I… it’s nonsense.” She let go of my hand and sat up straight, bringing her knees to her chest and rests her chin on.

“It’s never nonsense when it’s about you.” I tried to look at her for a second but then I should keep my eyes back on the road.

“Well,” She started and played with my calloused fingers. “I don’t want to go back there.”

I furrowed my brows as I feel her look up at me again and looked down at once she sees me looking down at her.

I sighed. I didn’t know what to tell her. So I pull my arm up to her shoulder and bring her closer to me. “We’ll make them pay, baby. I’ll make them..”

“No.” She whispered. “I don’t want you getting into trouble, Luke.”

“I’m not getting into…”

“You will.” She pulled herself away from me and faced me. “I’ll just drop my classes and maybe continue schooling next year or in other school or…”

“You can’t…” I cut her off.

“What?”

“I said you can’t.”

“I can.” She said firmly, her small hands balling into a fist on top of her thighs but her voice still calm.  “That’s the only way to stay out of their way, of Cathy’s way. She had you before I came here and that made her furious about me, and I don’t and I definitely can’t stay away from you.” She said looking away.

“Hey,” I called her. “Babe..” I reached for her hand but pushed my hand away. So I pulled over a safe side and pulled the hand break up. What did she say again? Did she say she can’t stay away from me?

“Sarah,” I unbuckled my seat belt and moved towards her, bringing my hands to her jaw to face me. “No body’s asking you to stay away from me…”

“Luke,” She shook her head looking down.

“Where do you get all of these? I told you not to listen..”

“How can I not, Luke?” She looked at me straight to my eyes. “You are everywhere. The days you weren’t at school, girls stare at me like I killed you or something. They purposely let me hear what they think of me, what hearsays they made up about…” And then and there I crashed my mouth onto hers and slide my tongue in. She kissed me back but pulled away easily.
