Alex felt the agony immediately, unable to let out more than a gasp as her body was filled with the most excruciating pain she had ever felt. She wanted to curl into a ball and cry but the with the clasps she just strained against them and went rigid. She spasmed a few time before her vision began to cloud, her body beginning to give up when she heard Eddie's voice pulling her back to the surface. "Think of Aaron!" he told her frantically. Alex tried to concentrate on Aaron, on his smiling face, or his odd coloured eyes, using him as an anchor to stop from sinking under. Eventually, after what felt like hours but was only a matter of minutes, she became more used to the pain and began panting as the excruciating pain continued to course through her, but lessened.
As she panted, Eddie heaved a sigh of relief. He knew what it felt like to have that coursing through your veins. You can hardly breathe until the pain lessens a fraction and you pant or you often pass out from exertion as well. Before he could relax though, he felt the first needle enter his arm and looked over in horror to see a new set of dark blue bags hanging from the hooks, that were quickly being attached.
Alex managed to turn her head to see Eddie readying himself for his pain before she passed out.
She awoke again lying in the bed beside the table she had been on, the IV bags were gone, along with all the pain they brought. She managed to sit up, her muscles still aching like crazy. She stood up and stretched, hearing her back and shoulders crack. She managed to make her way to Eddie across the room, who was pale and sweating and looking worse than before, whereas Alex was getting better by the minute."Howya Frobisher," he mumbled, managing to pull himself up to sitting. "Are you all right?" she asked him worriedly. "They do this to me multiple times a week, I'm fine. But man that serum was a hell of a lot worse than usual." He managed to sit up and Alex brought him a glass of water from the tray left on one of the tables."Is that just what they do to you, give you that serum or whatever it is and then leave?"
"Nah, they always take blood and run a bunch of tests afterwards, then they leave me here."
"Oh wow, they care so much."
Eddie chuckled. He managed to eat a couple of spoonfuls of the gruel that they gave them, before telling Alex about F8. "There was another, before you. Dara, lovely guy, gifted though. They gave him F8 the very first day he was here. He couldn't handle it and it killed him. I was their first gifted to experiment with since the original person that they started the Willow Tree around. They started with super weak serums, hardly even felt anything, but as their technology progressed, the serums became more powerful, more potent. But as the serum's got worse, so did my pain tolerance, so if I get F8, it stills hurts like hell but nowhere near how you or Dara felt. Whatever they gave me today was worse than I've ever felt though, I don't know what on earth they put in that but it's not nice."
"It's a separator I think."
"A what?"
"I think it's some kind of blood separator, that they're using to try and separate whatever it is that makes us gifted and whatever it is that makes us normal."
"That is actually pretty smart."
"I got an A in biochemistry. The only A of my whole leaving cert."
"Ha, well I never even sat my leaving cert so that's fun."
Alex chuckled, before she could reply though, the lights shut out and she was left in the pitch black. She said goodnight to Eddie and made her way back to her bed, contemplating how her life was suddenly dictated solely by some random person at a computer.
Her days continued like this for the next few months, getting different serums and weird medications, sometimes they would be back in with the Toby and Cat, but mostly they were in room D24. After a while, Alex forgot about her friends coming to her aid, putting it down to either, they will come for her when they are ready, or they were killed by her father. Either way, she didn't need to think about it anymore.
