I opened the front door of my home slowly. I didn't want anyone to see how badly I had been jumped. Carefully, I closed the door behind me. There was a nose coming from the kitchen.
''Ean? Is that you?'' mom asked. She stepped out into the living room with a glass mixing bowl in her hand. She must have still been working on dinner. It was only six forty-five. Based on her profile it looked as if she had on a smile. The second she turned her head in my direction here eyes grew wide. Mom was so surprised she dropped the bowl in her hands and completely ignored the fact glass shattered everywhere. Tears began to from in here eyes.
''Ean, baby, what happened?'' she asked. Annie came downstairs, probably to see why glass had broke. Annie quickly put her hands over her mouth when she saw me. I took a quick look in the mirror mom has above the phone. The scar I had left a huge blood stain and my chest was showing a bit. My shirt and face were bloody messes.
''I got jumped.''
''DALLAS, GET DOWN HERE!'' she yelled really loud. It almost blew me and Annie's ears out. Dad came running down the stairs.
''What happened?'' he asked. Mom was in front of me sop he couldn't see what I looked like. Mom moved a little to the right. I looked up at dad. The look on his face was deadly and serious. I could tell dad wanted to cry, but he didn't let the tears fall. He got real close to me.
''Kid. I'm only gonna ask once. Who did this to ya?''
''....'' There was a long pause between us. ''I don't know them.''
''I think you're lyin' to me.''
'' I ain't. These guys just grabbed me and started hittin' me, and then they cut me.'' Dad looked real mad. Not at me, but at the fact I was jumped and he nor mom knew who to go after.
''Did ya try to fight back?''
''Ya, but they were big guys with a blade. There wasn't much I could do.''
''I'm calling the police,'' dad said.
''Don't.'' He turned back to look at me. Everyone looked at me as if I were a freak of some sort.
''Why the hell wouldn't I! Those guys could've killed ya, Ean!''
''But they didn't.''
''Look it's one thing if they hit ya, but when they nearly kill ya that's where I draw the line!'' dad walked over to the phone. I had so many thoughts and feelings running through my head I said something I really should've.
''I wasn't killed! Calling the cops is just gonna have 'em hunting my ass down! It's a damn shame they didn't kill me!'' I yelled. Mom, dad, and Annie looked hurt at what I said. Mom tried to walk up to me so she could calm me down, but I ran upstairs and slammed the door. Tears began to fall from my eyes. I ddin't mean to make such a scene and hurt them they way I did. I was just so angry and scared. The truth was those guys almost did kill me, but next time around they would've for sure if dad called the cops.
I was curious to see what they were saying so I sat at the top of the stairs and listened.
''Why would he say such a thing?'' mom asked.
''He's just upset at what happened. I don't like the fact he wishes for death upon himself though,'' dad told her. Annie was quiet at the whole situation. After a little while I went into the bathroom and grabbed the blade I hid in the very back of the cabinet. My old switchblade was covered in blood stains. I rolled up my sleeves and pointed the blade on my wrist. Three cuts. One for mom, one for dad, and one for Annie. I dragged the blade from my wrist down to my vein. It was about a five centimeter cut. All my guilty thoughts were washed away by the blood and pain. I cut twice more. I left them bleed for a little while before I washed my arm off. I made sure to wash off my blade as best as I could before I hid it again. Once my arm was done bleeding I got out of the bathroom and went inside my room. Annie was sititng on my bed.
''What's been goin' on with you?'' she asked with tears in her eyes.
''Whatcha mean?''
''You've been different. What is it? Is it Mike and Vince? Are ya still upset ova the whole thing?''
''Yeah.''
''Ean, please stop this.''
''Look, eveything's OK,'' I said then gave her a hug. She was only a kid. Annie wouldn't even begin to comprehend what was going on in my head.
She stayed in my room for a little bit. When she left I laid down and tried to fall asleep. Tomorrow was going to be Monday... great. I had a bad feeling tomorrow was going to be worse than today
