End of times

Chapter 3: New Mutants

A few days have passed since they met Myriam, Farhan now is starting to trust Zack. Liam and Jacob are talking about their future or if there is even going to be one. There have been a lot more mutants in the past days so they're wondering if the radiation is still on a high level. They only have one gas mask but Farhan reassures them that it's fine because they would've already turned into whatever those are by now. Nobody in the group really feels safe to go outside. They tell each other that the only time that they'll go back out is when they're gonna be out of food.

Liam is listening to the radio, everybody else is just laying around being bored. Suddenly, a sound comes from the radio, it sounds like a voice. They turn up the volume and it seems to say that if there are any survivors out there, there is a safe camp in Hamilton, a small town outside of Montreal. The group all look at each other. Farhan looks at Liam and tells him to go to the side so they can talk. Liam says that it is a good idea because if there are more survivors it means that there is a higher chance of survival. Farhan counters with saying that Hamilton is far away and could be quite dangerous to get to. Liam says that it's a risk he is willing to take but Farhan counters with it's not just a risk for him but a risk for the entire group. Liam says that they will have to make a vote. They come back to the group and they both say their perspective.

The rest of the group start talking, it takes a couple of minutes. Zack goes first and says that it would be good to go but that they're gonna have to carry all of the food they got and all the guns. Myriam says that she would rather stay here because they have everything they need and could just go get more where ever. Jacob says that he wants to go to the safe camp because it is probably protected by the military and that's much safer. Owen goes forward and says that he would rather stay here because they don't know if it's a trap or not. Samy is the only one that hasn't said anything. He is the deciding vote. Samy stands up and says to the group that he would in fact rather go to the safe camp because he trusts Liam and would like to see if other people he knows are safe there.

The following day, they all start packing up the food and taking the guns with the ammo. They start making up a root to take for maximum security. Farhan questions himself on maybe he should just stay at the bunker alone but doesn't have the courage to do it. And so they leave the safety of the bunker for hopefully more safety. As soon as they leave the bunker, they spot some mutants, Owen wastes no time shooting them with his rifle, Farhan says to him that he should probably try to keep his bullets. Everybody on while walking is wondering how the hell people or animals became mutants because they didn't become some and there are still some dead bodies on the ground so why didn't they turn. Samy puts out a theory that it might be people at the bottom of this, that there is probably a lab turning things into that. Everybody just thinks he is crazy except Farhan. Farhan starts talking about when he was a secret agent and he took down a laboratory producing biological weapons. Everybody questions it because if he took it down then why are there still mutants and why would the mutants be in Canada and not in Cuba. Liam is confused because how would some lab ship mutants around the globe from Cuba. Owen says that maybe it was Russia and they might have planned the entire thing with the government being down, how would people know that mutants are being shipped. Samy asks how would the mutants look human and Farhan answers with: ''They probably the weapons on humans''.

All these conversations distract them and when Liam looks behind him, he sees that they are followed by a bunch of mutants. Liam quickly grabs a gun from the bag and starts shooting. The entire group starts running and with all the food and guns they're carrying they don't move fast. The mutants start catching them and Farhan fears the worst. The entire group takes a gun and start unleashing on the mutants. Bullets are flying everywhere. They quickly make the start decision of leaving some of their food behind. They start making a second run for it. It's clear to see that some people in the group aren't that athletic. They start losing the mutants and make a sharp turn. They take a breather and start asking themselves if they saw some new kinds of mutants again. now their theory seems to get a bit more realistic. They look at what they lost during that run and they see that it was quite a big loss. Farhan starts saying that he knew that they shouldn't have left the bunker and Liam pisses him off a bit by saying that it's too late now.

They have a bit over 2 hours left before making it to the camp. everybody is shocked by the encounter. Jacob is stressing so much that he starts fidgeting. Farhan looks really mad and Myriam disappointed. Liam looks like he wants to kill somebody and could very well because he is still holding a gun. On the root, they find a small market and they decide to raid it. Liam finds some cans and so does Samy. That's only a small portion of what they lost, Samy is the only one that seems positive. That changes quickly because from afar they spot the same guys that kidnapped them before. Liam not taking any crap just screams at them: ''Hey remember me!'' and starts shooting, the group stays back as Liam unleashes on the bandits. a few seconds have passed and there is only one remaining but only because he got away. three bodies are on the floor and Liam just stares at them and starts laughing. The group starts questioning Liams' mental state. Owen goes to grab the gun from Liam but Liam just stares at him and he backs off. 

They keep walking but everyone is quite, all stunned and shook. Only about an hour left before they arrive at the camp. Everyone is tired and Liam cooled down a bit. There are only roads now because they are out of Montreal. Jacob is so tired that he just goes and lays down on the grass, pretty much everyone except Farhan does the same thing. He starts saying that it's not that far away and that they must not give up now. They look at him and lay their heads back down. 

They wake up from that tiny nape and they realize that Farhan is gone. Liam screams his name but no response. They resume their way hoping that Farhan just took a head start and surely enough they see him from afar.

As they are walking they see from afar a huge wall with two military guards on top. They start running out of happiness. The guards come down and start stripping them of all their food and guns, they open the door and say: ''Welcome!''. They are surprised to see that there almost no one. They can only see a few military people and some animals. They go and aks the guards where is everybody and they only respond with: ''There is no one else''. Liam and Farhan look at each other and look shocked. Everyone looks at Liam and seem disappointed. Liam asks the guards id they can have their stuff back and they say it is now military property and they say that they will keep them safe and that they are awaiting more people. The group does a sigh of relief.

A few days have now passed by and there was only one new arrival. The group made him feel welcome and learned his backstory. His name is Richard and that he survived on barely anything for the past week or so. Farhan seems to like him and gets quite fond of him. The group is still not satisfied with the number of people there is. Liam says that if there are not more people coming in the next days then they will ask to leave and will try to go back to their bunker. 

During the night, you can hear some gunshots and mutants getting taking down so at least the military is doing its job. The next morning was crazy, a bunch of people came into the camp and they also got stripped of all their food and guns and they were placed in houses just like the group. Liam now happy that he came here, goes to Farhan and starts gloating to his face, Farhan is pissed but he keeps it to himself and fake laughs. Jacob was already out conversating with the new people and even introduced some people and the group liked them to. Their names are Elody and Erkand, the two of them were both workers for a war company that made weapons so they had no troubles surviving. The military guys come to the groups' house and say to them that that's probably all the people that there is left because all of the rest is probably dead by now. Elody and Erkand move in with the group and everything seemed quite good.

Every day, the military guys come to the houses and bring food and life is great. Liam and Farhan are a bit separated because they stopped talking to each other but everything else is good. 

The following morning, the two guys at the military doors couldn't shoot down all the mutant and some got in. The group is stressing but the two guys get in and they shoot the rest down, Liam rallies the group and starts talking about how it doesn't seem that safe anymore but Samy starts saying that it is just one breach and that they will probably add more guards but Farhan agrees but says that he has noticed that there seem to be a lot more of them coming every day and that one day it might just be too much.

The group takes a vote on if they should stay or go and everybody except Liam and Farhan says they should stay. Liam and Farhan look at each other and agree that they should keep their guards up...
