TAKING QUICK STEPS across the grass, Sevara spotted Omera crouched beside a group of children, who were smiling brightly as they played a game with the child. Watching him, her lips tugged at the corners as he wandered around the dancing feet of the children, his nose scrunched in delight as he giggled alongside them. Raising her head, the woman met Sevara's gaze with a kind smile, asking, "How are you liking it here?"

"It's amazing," she said, her thoughts drifting to the lush forest that surrounded them, with leaves of emerald and citron falling with the season's passing, and the comfort of Mando's arms woven tightly around her waist mere moments ago. Smiling, she added, "although I did wanna' ask you something."

"Of course, anything."

"Would it be possible for me to get some new clothes? It's just been a while and," she gestured to her torn sleeve, still stained red from the Mudhorn attack, "this shirt is kinda'. . . old and— gross."

A small laugh left Omera's lips as she nodded, rising from the grass as she stepped towards Sevara, looping their arms together, saying, "I have just the thing."

OMERA COMBED HER fingertips through Sevara's hair, pulling the strands into two short braids against her scalp. The ghost of a smile settled across Sevara's lips, tugging at the sleeves of her newly-borrowed white tunic as she recalled how her mother used to do her hair the same way, back when she was a young girl. Even in their small village nestled in the forests of Takodana, her mother shone like a beacon of light, providing hope during desperate times.

"Winta is lucky to have you," said Sevara, leaning into the woman's touch as she delicately wove one strand over the other.

"Thank you," Omera replied, a smile evident in her voice as she added, "so is your boy." Pausing a moment, she gingerly asked, "Forgive me if I'm overstepping but. . . where does he come from?"

"We're not really sure," she said, "Mando brought him back to my farm after he found him and ever since then we've been. . . um— on our own, I guess."

"Ah, I understand. So, tell me," said Omera, tying off the ends of her hair and stepping around the stool Sevara was perched atop, lowering herself on the edge of of her bed, an ornate crafting draped in sky blue blankets. She raised her brows, asking, "How long have you been with your mandalorian?"

A faint flush coated Sevara's, shrugging as she played with the hem of her shirt and said, "I don't know, a few weeks now, I think?"

Omera's eyes widened, briefly glancing down to the small 'T' that was inked into Sevara's wrist, saying, "Oh, you must really like him then— to make such a commitment."

"What?" Sevara raised a brow, lips parting in an inaudible gasp as she understood what Omera was referring to, saying, "Oh, he's not— I mean, we're not. . ." a soft sigh left her lips, telling the woman, "it isn't for him. It's for my fiancé, actually. He, um. . . he passed away a few years ago."

Omera's hands flew across her lips as she scrambled for an apology, telling her, "I'm so sorry. I— I only assumed, the two of you seem so close and I. . . I'm so sorry, truly."

Sevara shook her head, looking down to the ink and tracing it with her fingertip in a feather-light stroke. She glanced to Omera, saying, "It's alright, it was a long time ago, but. . . sometimes it just hurts to even think about him, you know?"

A sad smile settled across Omera's lips as she reached out, taking Sevara's hands in hers, saying, "I do. My husband. . . well, Winta and I lost him a while back, too."

"I'm sorry," said Sevara, her shoulders drooping as she gazed into the woman's sorrowful eyes. "It must be hard to raise a child all alone."

"We get by," she said, giving a half-shrug. Looking to her, Omera tilted her head, "I hope you don't mind me asking but, were you and your fiancé ever planning on having any little ones? It's just that you seem to be such a natural mother when it comes to your boy, so."

Spine stiffening, flashes of crimson spotted against Sevara's vision, accompanied with white-hot pain and a cloud of gloom that hung above her head, constantly taunting her as she wasted away deep within the caverns, bathed in despair.

Her gaze flitted towards the floorboards, swallowing thickly as she told the woman, "I, uh. . . I was a month or so into my pregnancy when I was taken into captivity by the Empire. They tried to get information out of me and when they didn't need me anymore they. . ." she paused, her breath fragile like a shard of glass that sunk deep into her skin, bleeding the jarring pain from her past. "I was given a life sentence, but being shipped to the Spice Mines was practically a death sentence in itself. No one who goes in comes out alive and down there, in that place. . . that's when I lost my baby."

Omera's eyes grew sad as she extended her arms towards Sevara and pulled her into a bone-crushing embrace. "I'm so sorry you had to go through all of that. No one deserves that kind of torture."

Sevara sniffled, leaning her head against the woman's shoulder, saying, "It's okay, it was a long time ago. I'm. . . better now." Pulling from her arms, Sevara swiped around her eyes, looking to Omera with a subtle shrug and said, "Before I met Mando, it felt as though there was a big, gaping hole in my chest— like a void I wasn't able to fill for so, so long, but now. . ."

Tilting her head, Omera gave her small smile, quietly offering, "You've found your missing piece?"

Sevara's eyes brightened, a rosy hue glazing her cheeks as she looked to the woman with a thumping heart, admitting, "I think I have."
