Chapter 3:
Let the Adventure Begin!
“Eclipse? What the heck happened in here…?” Eclipse heard Lunar’s voice behind her.
Eclipse turned around to see Lunar and Solar enter the lab. Descant and an umbreon with violet rings that Eclipse hadn’t seen before came in after them.
“Oh. Well, this weird kid barged in here, stole a starter Pokemon, said his name was Lux, challenged me to a battle, and left when I beat him,” Eclipse exclaimed. “Oh. Also, say hello to my new Pokemon, Sapleef.” She let the pokeball hit the floor, and the small sapling Pokemon popped out.
“Leeee!” Sapleef hissed, looking around. It spotted Descant and the umbreon, and hissed again before using Thorny Snare. “LeeeeEEEEF! Sapsapleef!”
“What-- No, Sapleef!” Eclipse yelled, returning the Grass type as the other two Pokemon leaped out of the way. “No! We’re not battling right now! Calm down!”
“I heard Sapleef were usually timid, and they don’t learn many offensive moves,” Lunar said, picking up his umbreon. “That little guy’s going to have a lot of trouble later on…”
“Bree!” the foxlike Pokemon agreed.
“Hm? Oh, by the way, this is my umbreon, Baritone,” Lunar said when he saw Eclipse staring at the Dark type.
Solar glanced around the lab. “Wow! The lab really is destroyed! You must’ve gone all out in your battle! But… I wonder what Professor Sakura’s going to say about this…”
“Eeeesssssp!” Descant whined, trying to get Solar’s attention.
“Well, you’ll be able to find out now,” a voice came from the door.
Solar yelped, grabbing Descant and backing up. Lunar walked over towards Eclipse, before turning to look at the door.
A familiar woman was standing in the doorway, smiling while looking around at the lab. Eclipse frowned. She was sure she had seen this woman before…
“You’re Professor Sakura, right?” Solar gasped.
“You were in the Pokecell tutorial, right?” Eclipse asked at the same time.
“You’re both correct!” the woman responded. “Yes. I’m Professor Sakura. I study Pokemon here in the Lumens region, and every year I give out starter Pokemon to new trainers. I assume that you’ve already selected your Pokemon, and had a battle with them from the state of the lab…?”
“Oh, no! Only Eclipse has her starter!” Solar said.
“There was another boy, too, but he left already,” Lunar added.
“Oh? Well, which Pokemon did you choose… Eclipse, was it?” Professor Sakura asked.
“Sapleef,” Eclipse said. “That other kid who was here chose pikachu.”
“Hm. Sapleef, eh? He’s a difficult one. He’s pretty violent, for a Pokemon that learns mostly supporting moves,” Professor Sakura said, before striding over to the remaining pokeballs and picking them up. She held them out to Solar and Lunar. “That means the two remaining Pokemon are… Candlo and Flish! Take whichever one you want!”
“Lunar! Let’s decide who gets first pick with Grass-Fire-Water!” Solar suggested, putting down Descant.
“Okay,” Lunar agreed, putting down Baritone.
Each pounded their fist against their palm three times while chanting “Grass, Fire, Water, go!”
“Water! I get first pick,” Lunar said, grinning. “I pick Flish.”
