The Divine Monster

Chapter 4

Julican came back 20 minutes later with a book in hand,the cover read,in shiny gold letters "Risa Orchid Nolan".

"You work quick"Kaylo commented,Julican rolled his eyes before opening the book,he scanned through it,going more to the end of the book.He finally found where it mentioned Daniel, as he read,he raise an eyebrow,he didn't expect this.

"So Risa was being abused when you met her?"He asked,still reading.

"Yeah"Daniel sighed,if Julican saw that then there was no doubt he was going to find out about his & Risa's other secret.(No,she didn't get pregnant,they didn't do that >=/)

As Julican kept reading,he finally got to a certain part that peeked his interest.

Risa was walking home from work one night when she heard a strange gurgling noise.Her curiousity got the better of her & she went to check it out.She quietly snuck up to the corner near the noise,she peeked around it carefully & almost puked.

A man stood over a male body,a knife was plunged in the man throat,that was what the gurgling was,he was choking on his own blood.

She wanted to scream,but knew better,she quietly tried to back up but stepped on a piece of metal which made a loud clanking noise.

The man walked around the corner to see who it was he'd have to kill now,but stopped dead in his tracks at the sight of her.

Her fearfully forced herself to look at the person,wanting to remember his face even in death, but stared at it in more shock than fear.

There,standing right in front of her,was her bloodied best friend, their eyes met,neither knew what to say or do.

They stayed like that for 10 minutes before Risa's face grew into a tired expression.

"Let's just...go home.....we'll never mention this again..okay?"She whispered,she was tired,what was she supposed to do anyway?She couldn't...wouldn't turn in her best friend for anything,even if it was murder.

The two walked home in silence,it wasn't awkward,but it wasn't comfortable,it was just that, silence.

"Murder,huh?I didn't think you were the type,but I guess this explains what happened to Attican"He finally looked up from the book to Daniel.

Daniel sighed heavily,a small smile on his face.
"Not everyone is what they seem,I guess.Y'know Risa & I never spoke about that moment again,she didnt ask so I didn't bring it up." He sighed once again,this time softly.
"As for Attican,I don't like being called a...glitch or error or whatever.I just lost my temper,I do feel bad about it now,even if he did deserve it.Is he okay,by the way?"He looked towards the nurse,she nodded to him.

"The surgery went well,he'll be healed in a couple weeks or so. Though he seems to be very unstable emotionally,I think he feels bad about what he did,but doesn't know what to do about it. Maybe you should go visit him soon,just to test the waters."She smiled at him sweetly,he smiled back.

"You guys hung out a lot,huh?" Julican hummed to himself as he read on,until he got to one part,it was near the end of the book.
"She died recently"

Daniel's eyes slowly widened as his mind processed the information,he turned to Julican, waiting for his to continue.

"It tells me how you died,because she cried about it for a while,then it goes on to say she was murdered by the man she lived with"He stared blankly at the page.

Daniel started shaking,tears started to form in his eyes,he harshly dug his nails into his palms.His anxiety was spiking from the new information,he didn't want them to see him like this but he was freaking out.

"After your death it seemed he took advantage of the situation & killed her,though he didn't entirely mean to kill her,she died from blood loss"He looked up at Daniel,everyone was staring at Julican so when they looked at Daniel,they finally noticed his shaky state.

"Daniel?Are you okay?"Azual asked,he softly placed his hand on his shoulder to comfort him but Daniel shied away from it.

The nurse quickly recognized what was happening.
"Everyone out of the room,now!"She ordered,they all looked at her.
"I said now!"She yelled,they all walked out quickly,she swiftly sat down & started rocking Daniel in her arms,whispering sweet things in his ear to calm him down.

After awhile,he stopped shaking, she gently wiped his tears away with her sleeve & smiled.
"Are you okay?It was pretty insensitive to tell you those things like that.Julican doesn't understand how much it hurt to lose somebody in such a way,I apologize on his behalf..."She continued to rock him for a couple minutes before getting up, he laid down & started to try to sleep,he needed to sleep it all off.

Zale walked out & headed towards the men,she quickly snatched the book & put her hands of her hips.
"You can't just tell someone things like that!Now Daniel feels like it's his fault she died!You could've put it in a better way than that!No more reading this book to him,or at all for that matter!I don't trust you with it,so I'll be keeping this until you apologize & learn to be more gentle about these things!" She lectured,glaring at them.
"Daniel's sensitive to his past,even if he doesn't wanna show it,you need to understand that if you want to get closer to him..."She turned & walked back into the room before any of them had time to speak.

They all looked at each other, Azual sighed deeply.

"She's right,she was the only one to realize it that quickly but he was panicking,he obviously didn't know Risa was dead,it must have struck a hard blow to him.She was his best friend,after all."He rubbed his arm awkwardly,not knowing what to do now.

"Julican,how did Daniel die?" Kaylo asked,ignoring what Zale & Azual said almost completely.

"It's not my place to tell,ask Daniel if you really wanna know"Julucan walked out of the infirmary after that,Kaylo sighed in frustration,he wasn't getting anywhere.He had to dig deeper...
