Marinette couldn't even focus on the movie she and Adrien watched. She didn't even remember what the name of the movie was. Her thoughts were consumed with fear and worry.
What would Scarlet Moth want with Adrien? She wasn't still sure if she could trust Adrien with her secret. Sure he is kind and sweet, but would he even believe her when she tells him that she can hear and see ghosts.
It was Monday and she was at school. She went to class and sat in her seat. She was deep in thought, so deep she barely heard the voice next to her.
"Hey, Marinette."
She snapped out of her thoughts and looked up to see Adrien.
"H-H-Hey Adrien," she stammered. Guess she still had a crush on him. Then a screeching, annoying voice was heard.
"ADRIKINS!!! Did you miss me?" Chloé threw herself at Adrien, as if he would actually like someone like her or as they were dating.
Unfortunately for Marinette, Chloé noticed her. "Why are you still here, Freak!?"
"This is my seat here," Marinette replied in a small voice. She was nervous because Chloé was here. One wrong move, then she will hear from her and Sabrina after school.
"I mean why are you here? Shouldn't you already been shipped off to an asylum or something already," Chloé said to the bluenette as if she was a small child.
Marinette wondered why couldn't her life be normal, with no ghosts and especially no Scarlet Moth. She could still hear those screams and the voices of the group of kids surrounding Scarlet Moth. Then the car that came and ran over the boy and both disappeared.
Then how Scarlet Moth pointed at Adrien with that word on the wall; Next.
For the thousandth time, she asked herself what would he want with Adrien. She wished she knew the answers to those questions pounding in her head. She wished that somebody, anybody, could share the same gift she did. Someone who could understand her and believe her.
Someone like Adrien.
"Chloé, that is enough!" I was snapped back into reality and heard Adrien's voice. He was standing up for her. Her, Marinette Dupain-Cheng. A shy bookworm who talks to herself and has no friends.
"Don't worry, Adrikins. I was just joking with her." But by the wry smirk on Chloé's face, Marinette could tell that she meant what she said.
Chloé went back to her seat, sending an enormous amount of air kisses to Adrien.
"Are you okay, Marinette?" Adrien asked her once Chloé was gone. Marinette didn't know how to answer that. Yes? No? Not sure?
"Yeah, I'm okay." She stated to him.
Adrien wasn't sure if he should believe her. Not after he saw how terrified she looked last week, she was one minute fine. The next, she was breathing heavily and spaced out. He will try to ask her after school, at the library.
Meanwhile, Marinette was still in her thoughts when she felt the hairs on her neck stood up. A chill went across her spine and she saw a shadow outside the classroom.
She tried to ignore it but she couldn't. She felt scared, she tried to stay calm but on the inside, she was freaking out.
Throughout the day, she tried to ignore that terrifying feeling that could possibly be Scarlet Moth and she avoided Adrien when possible.
She avoided everyone in fact. She felt all alone in the crowds and missed Alya's comforting words and reassurance.
When the last bell rang, she jumped out of her seat and ran towards the library. She waved lightly at the librarian and went to sit at her usual spot.
She looked around for Emilie, scaring herself when she felt a touch on her shoulder.
"Emilie, you scared me."
"What's the matter, Mari?"
"I-I-I saw him..."
"Who did you... Oh no, you saw him?"
"Yes, I saw Scarlet Moth..."
