One and the Other

A lone voice sings softly.
A far off melody fills the silence
The lullaby attempts to fill the emptiness.

They're both aware there isn't much time left.
One desperately seeks rest,
The other clings to every waking moment.

The tune reaches it's end
The final notes stretched out,
Pleading the silent room away.

One's eyes shut
The other's beg not to blink
Despite the sting at it's edges.

The void of noise after the song is deafening.
The stare from the other to the one,  blinding.
The deep sorrow in the other's soul can't be held in.

The last day is drawing near.
