After that night, Mom and Uncle James were true to their word.  They went home together, and Uncle James moved in with her. That Monday, Mom wired us each the $50,000 that Dad had left us for college.  Alex and I took some of it to start some investments. With the rest, we saved and I was able to quit my job at the library. We could live off of the rest of our money if we were careful.  When the holidays came around, we went home to New Jersey together. It was nice spending the holidays with my family. All of us happy under one roof. Having Mom so accepting of me and Alex felt a bit weird, but she didn't bat an eyelash when we stayed in the same room.  After the holidays ended, Alex and I went back to school, and enjoyed the rest of our first year together.

4 years later:

Today is our graduation day.  Alex and I are still happily together.  Mom and James came for our graduation. They never married, but were happy living together.  After our graduation, we went out for dinner to celebrate. Alex gets our attention.

"I have big news.  I've been scouted by the Atlanta Falcons.  I'm going to be a pro ball player!"

Even I didn't know.  I was as shocked and excited as the others.

"Alex!  That's amazing!  Why didn't you tell me?"

"I wanted it to be a surprise."

"It's a surprise all right."

"I have something else to ask too."

I watched Alex fish in his pocket, he took a deep breath and got down on his knee.  I gasped.

"Layna, you're my whole world.  I want everything with you. I can't spend my life without you.  Will you marry me?"

"Yes!"

He placed the ring on my finger, and the whole restaurant clapped as he picked me up and kissed me.  Mom and James hugged us. I've never been happier. We decided to wait until after Alex's first year on the team to get married.  In the meantime, we found a lovely 3 bedroom house in a very posh neighborhood. I got a job as a chemistry teacher at the highschool closeby.  Alex started training on the team, and then it was time for football season. The girlfriends and wives were given special box seats to watch the games, and I was at every one.  All the other wives and girlfriends were very nice, and I had so much fun.

6 months later:

Football season is over.  The Falcons didn't make it to the Superbowl, but I was so proud of Alex.  He plays so hard and trains harder. Mom helped me plan my wedding along with Julia, who agreed to be my maid of honor.  We planned a simple wedding. Just close friends and family. Today is our wedding day. I'm excited and nervous. I have news for Alex for later.  We hadn't planned on kids yet, but I just found out I was 6 weeks along. I hear my bedroom door open as I'm putting on my earrings.

"Hi Mom."

"Oh baby...you look lovely."

"Thanks Mom.  I'm so nervous."

"All women get pre wedding jitters.  All that will go away as soon as you walk down the aisle."

"Thanks Mom."

I hug her.

"Let's go."

Outside the door is James.  He kisses Mom, then she leaves to go take a seat.

"Are you ready to walk me down the aisle?"

"Let's do this."

I hook my arm through his and we head to the aisle.  The music starts and we walk down. My eyes lock with Alex's.  He looks so handsome in his tuxedo. He smiles really big, and I see a twinkle in his eye.  James passes me over to Alex.

"Wow...you're gorgeous."

"You look pretty sexy yourself."

We get through the ceremony and finally are husband and wife.  Everyone claps and cheers as we kiss. At the reception, we are circling the room, talking to friends and family.  It's crazy and overwhelming. I left to get some fresh air outside. It's night time now. The air is refreshing.

"Hey wife…"

I turned around to see Alex.

"Hey husband."

"Are you okay?"

"Yes.  Just needed some fresh air.  It was getting a bit stuffy in there."

He puts his arms around me.  We could just barely hear some slow music playing.  He swayed me slowly to the music.

"Alex, I have news for you."

"What is it baby?"

"I'm pregnant."

He stops and stares at me, then moves his hand to my belly.

"Oh my god ...I didn't think I could love you anymore.  Oh baby…"

He kissed me passionately and rested his head on mine.

"Your so perfect."

"I guess that means your happy."

"Are you kidding?  I'm ecstatic. We're going to have our own family."

9 months later:

We just became parents.  A little girl. We named her Anna Marie Winston.

"She's perfect Alex.  Look at our princess."

"She is perfect.  Almost as perfect as her mom."

"I love you Alex."

"I love you too baby."
