The others

When Benny and I arrived at the baseball field there were a couple other boys already there. I looked at Benny questioningly and in response he grabbed my hand and pulled me towards the center of the field where the other boys stood. "Hey guys" Benny said. How is even his voice hot?! I thought to myself. "Hey Benny" said a chorus of voices. They were are looking at me quizzically and some looked slightly annoyed. "Who's the girl Benny? Is it your girlfriend" said a small boy with glasses, dragging out the "girl" part of girlfriend. Of course, his statement made me blush, I crossed my arms across my chest and looked down. "Shut up squints, shes not my girlfriend."  Benny said "She's here to play" he added on shortly after. At that moment I saw the jaw of every last one of the guys standing in front of drop. "A girl? Playing baseball?" The boy said the word girl like it was a cuss word. "You have a problem with that yeah yeah?" Benny said. I smiled at the thought of him trying to defend me to the others. "It's ok Benny I don't have to play, I don't really know how anyway" I said, trying to release some of the tension. "That's ok! I can teach you!" He reassured me. "...maybe today I can just watch" Benny looked disappointed but said "ok" and pointed out a bench in the dugout that I could watch from. After I went over and sat down, the boys started playing. Benny was up to bat first. I heard the crack of the bat hitting the hall as it went soaring over the field. He ran the bases and slid into home. "Come on Benny you broke another ball" the redhead said in an annoyed tone. "Again?!" Said another boy. "Calm down Ham I have another." Benny said tossing a new baseball to the kid called "Ham".  I continued to watch, picking up on the names of a few of the guys. I tried to pick up on some baseball terminology too, but failed. I barely remembered what they taught in elementary school gym class, and that wasn't very in depth either. So long story short, all I knew was; the pitcher throws the ball, the batter hits it, and then runs the bases. If he makes it all the way around he gets what's called a homer in. It was pretty sad but that's all I knew. I was snapped out of my thoughts by another loud crack. I saw the baseball flying up, up, up, and then....right towards me? I froze, the ball was coming fast and right at my face. All I could do was sit and watch it fly towards me. Do something y/n! At least cover your face! My brain told me to move but I couldn't. At the last second I saw a glove stretch out in front of my face and catch the ball. I let out a breath I didn't know I as holding. "Are you ok?" It was Benny's voice. I looked down to see that it was his glove that had kept the ball from displacing my nose. "Um..yeah. Thank you." I said tucking my hair behind my ear and shaking my head to snap myself out of the daze. "No problem" he said. He then turned around and yelled "Kenny! I told you not to hit in over here!! You could of hit her!" Benny said, gesturing me. "Awww you didn't want him to hit your girllllfriend" teased the one he had referee to as yeah yeah" what a unique name I thought. "yeah yeah, I already told you she's not my girlfriend. Say it one more time and I'll skin you." Benny said to him. He then jerked his head towards home plate and said " you're up to bat" yeah yeah started to head for home but Kenny said "Actually, no ones up to bat. The calls broken." He turned the busted ball over in his hand. "Are you kidding me? That's two in one day!" Complained Ham. "You got another Benny?" Benny hesitated and then shook his head no. "Sorry guys I guess we'll have to start again tmrw. Each of the boys sighed and started to file out of the lot. Benny stopped me before I left. "Wait, not just yet. I'm gonna show you something." He pulled a new baseball out of his pocket and tossed it up and down. " I thought you said you didn't have another ball" he smirked at me and said " I lied" Benny proceeded to signal for me to follow him to home plate. He smiled and said "it's time for some lessons"
