Chapter 8

Slenderman's P. O. V.

As those words slipped from my mouth I regretted them. She seemed destroyed. She said in disbelief while tears streamed down her cheeks

-What...? (Kate)

-I... (Slender)

-You never loved me, did you?! (Kate)

-Kate, I... (Slender)

-I gave you everything I had! Everything! Wasn't that enough?! Wasn't it?! (Kate)

-But, Kate... (Slender)

-I set you free, Slender. (Kate)

-Kate, please... (Slender)

I tried to touch her shoulder but she backed away saying

-Don't touch me! I should have never come in this forest! (Kate)

She started to run away. I shouted

-Kate! (Slender)

But I got no response. She was no longer here. She... left.

Kate's P. O. V

I ran as fast as I could, like trying to get away from my past. I couldn't believe it. I loved him...

I started to feel dizzy. I heard soft voices in my ear, but no one was there. I felt that I lost total control over my body. The voices told me

-This way... (voices)

and my body was driven to the direction. As I unconsciously walked, I saw the closed road. As I stood in the middle of it, I saw a light ahead. As it turned to be two lights, I recognized a truck. I tried to move, but it was useless. The truck eventually honked and hitted me, and I fell on the ground. I felt that every single cell of my body had been broken. As everything went blacker, the voices told me

-You have paid the price... (voices)

Slenderman's P. O. V.

As I sat below a tree, I heard honking. Suddenly, I thought about one person: Kate. As I ran as fast as I could, I reached the road and saw Kate in the floor, bleeding. As I approached her, I noticed truck tracks, leading to an explanation: Kate had been hitted by a car. But, how was that possible? No vehicle entered here in decades. As her heavy breathing showed that she was still alive, I grabbed her face in my hands and said

-...Kate...? (Slender)

She coughed a little and said

-Slender...what... are you doing...here? (Kate)

-Kate, I'm so sorry. (Slender)

-It's not your... fault. It's mine to... think that you loved... me too. Maybe... it's better like... this.(Kate)

-Don't say that. You are going to be alright, Kate. You will heal and you will come back to the forest and we will be together forever. (Slender)

-Slender...I'm...dying. (Kate)

-No you're not. You...can't. (Slender)

A tear rolled down my cheek and she said

-Why do you... weep? You thought I... was...immortal? (Kate)

I was speechless. She forced her throat to say

-Goodbye, Slen...der. I... love...

I said before she finished the sentence

-I love you too, Kate. I love you too. (Slender)

I noticed that she was no longer breathing and her gaze was lost in something distant. I closed her eyelids with my fingers. As rage built up in me, I shouted

-Megan!!! (Slender)

She surprisingly appeared, petting Kate's bloody face. She said

-What troubles you? (Megan)

-Let her live. (Slender)

-Oh, sweetie, I can't do that. She made a deal with me. But, she never knew that I would've killed her anyways. (Megan)

-So I really did love her... (Slender)

-Yes. But, now that she's dead, you belong only to... me. Jajajajaja!!! (Megan)

-You witch!!! (Slender)

I tried to grab her, but she disappeared in thin air. I shouted. Then, I grabbed Kate's body. I carried her to a nearby lake to wash out her blood. Once I was done with that, I took her back to the place where we were this 2 years. I put her body in a perfect position. As I looked at her I noticed that something was missing: sunflowers. I went to the flower field in search for them. Rarely, a fourth of the field was covered by sunflowers. I took a big piece with me. When I got to Kate, I made her a sunflower mattress below and around her body. The most beautiful of them was in her hand. I cried all day and night.
