My day started like any other. I awoke to the buzzing of my alarm, hit the snooze, again, and again. Until finally I heard my mother shriek at me to get my butt out of bed before she came upstairs to drag me all the way to school. That really woke me up. Like a storm I jumped out of bed, into my clothes, and was out the door before I became later than I already was.
By the time I got to school, I was 20 minutes late. I tried to slip into class unnoticed, but of course teachers have eyes like hawks. I groaned inwardly as Mr. Kirnly singled me out. The other teenagers in the classroom eagerly awaited to hear what story I had spun for them today, seeing as how Mr. Kirnly and I always faced-off during class.
"Miss. Taylor, I see you've decided to join the living, this morning. What was it today? Was it that your house almost caught fire because a lightning bolt hit it, like on Monday? Or like on Tuesday, where your uncle accidentally gave you the sleeping dart instead of the wild shark living in your living room? Or maybe it was like yesterday, when a freak hailstorm appeared? With the hail as big as your pet lion, who lives in your guest room."
"But that is all true!" I protested. They really are, my cat and uncle can attest to it.
"So maybe they are. But why is it that only you, your uncle, who I might add hasn't been seen in society for 3 years and is thought to be dead or crazy, and your cat?"
"I don't know, maybe because you guys are all to ignorant to see the truth right in front of you!" I answered honestly.
Mr. Kirnly just sighed and shook his head in the way that suggested that I was crazy and he didn't know what to do with me. I knew that the conversation was over and that he had won, like always. I stomped over to my desk and sat down angrily. With a huff, I ignored the others around me snickering and gossiping. The rest of class continued uneventful. I had doodled on my work while Mr. Kirnly and the other teenagers talk around me. As I was getting ready to leave for my next class, a kid approached me. It was a new kid, I hadn't noticed her since I was busy ignoring everyone around me throughout class.
"Hi," she stuck out her hand," my name is Eden, and I believe you." she stated, completely serious.
"Oh, hi!" I shook her hand," my name is May" It took me a moment to understand what she meant by saying she believed me. When it hit me, I laughed, "You know I'm crazy. Nobody believes me besides my uncle, and he's crazy too." I continued laughing as I walked out of the classroom. But Eden was persistent, she joined me as I walked to my next class.
"But I'm serious. My brother says the same thing you do all the time! I think I should introduce you guys. During lunch meet me outside, by the garbage bins." And with that she spun around and hurried away to her own class. I stopped in the middle of the hallway to watch her go.
'What a strange kid,' I thought,' but look who's talking' I added. The warning bell sounded and I quickly sped away to my own class.
