4 YEARS LATER
An average aged man, with stubble on his face and black patches beneath his lower eyelid, paced along the hospital corridor. He heard the doctors encouragingly say ‘push’ and a woman's cry. This went on for a while until a new voice was heard crying. This new voice was delicate, soft and pleasing to ear and it replaced the woman's cry and the doctor's words.
A doctor came out of the room after a while.
"Who is Mr Don?"
That caught the attention of the pacing man.
"Doctor it's me"
"Congratulations. Your wife gave birth to a bouncing baby girl" the doctor smiled and walked off.
The man was overjoyed. He couldn't stop smiling. The nurses that were in that room walked out, each smiling happily at him. The last one out nodded him to go see his baby.
With that push, he rushed into the room grinning and found his wife on the bed carrying a wrapped baby."I'm sorry Chris, she's a girl" the woman said, a bit sad
"What nonsense. Who said I needed another boy. I already have a full army at home" he replied still grinning. He picked her up gently and at that moment, he knew he'll always love and treasure her.
"You're so adorable. You'll be my little princess. I'll love and protect you as long as I live" he spoke to his baby causing his wife to smile lovingly at him
"Don't you think you should call the boys and tell them the news? She asked.
"Of course I will, after I have finished gushing about my angel" his attention solely on his adorable bundle of joy
"Hey, you told me I'm your angel" she playfully retorted while pouting
"Did I? Okay I'll make you both my angel but this smaller angel takes more place in my heart"
He walked closer to his wife and sat on the bed so both of them can have a good look at the baby but the movement causes her to cry.
"I think she is hungry" her mother said
"Take her then. Make sure she is full. I'll step out and call Luke. The other boys should be in class. It's 2pm" Chris said then gave the baby to her mother and took out his phone from his pocket to call his son.
He walked out of the room while dialing Luke's number"What's up Dad" Luke said after a few rings
"Don't what's up me" Chris replied
"Okay Dad. I'm going for third period class now. Hope all is well?"
"Yea. It's just…"
"Dad what is going on?" At this point, he began to panic, thinking of all the worst thing that could happen. "Is it about Lydia?" He continued
"Yes son…I don't know what to do. I…I..."
"Dad please calm down and tell me"
His dad just laughed lightly. He was too happy and didn't have enough time to keep playing pranks on his son.
He got married to Lydia 3 years after the death of Maria. Normally,he wouldn't but he needed help training the kids as he wasn't always at home. He'd mostly go on business trips with his boss, who although female, didn't act it and treated him fairly. When they succeed in a particular course, she'll take him out to celebrate in a club and they'd get drunk and stagger home together but their relationship was plainly platonic.
He met Lydia at small restaurant which had small sitting capacity and was always crowded due to how delicious their meal is. There was no good at home so he took the boys to the restaurant and since there was no empty table, they had to share with Lydia who sat alone. She was really friendly to the kids and she said she loves kids alot and ended up as a nursery School teacher then he got her phone number so she'll teach as well as keep his kids company when he's away. So, from little, their feelings blossomed and they got married, with complete approval from the kids as well.
Not long after that, she got pregnant and he'd always feel like it's his first child hence, handled her delicately. His kids knew how cautious he was when dealing with his pregnant wife so Luke immediately panicked when he heard his dad stammering."It's nothing bad, boy. You have a baby sister"
He could hear him sigh in relief."Dad you scared me. Where are they now. I'm coming…"
"No you are not coming now. You'll wait till after school and don't be stubborn. Take care. Ohh, and tell your brothers".
With that, he ended the call, smiled to himself and rushed back to his incomplete family.
