“I came to return this” he dropped a book on the counter while blushing except his dark skin tone hid it so well.
“okay. What’s your name?” she asked him in an alluring voice which diverted his lucidity from realising she doesn’t even know his name.
“I’m Luke Chris Aaron” he beamed foolishly
“What’s the title of the book?” she typed on the laptop in front of her without sparing a glance at her customer.
“Why won’t you look at me?” he asked anxiously but slightly irritated.
The girl at the behind counter, although older than him, was drop dead gorgeous. She had curly virgin hair that was sleekly to the back with a puffy end. With just a crown on her head, she’ll look like a complete princess. He has never seen her full view before but he knows she has a good body and she’s taller than him as he’s noticed whenever she attends to him. Although she wore her hair like that every time, he never gets tired of admiring it. At times, he imagines her with the hairstyle and a wedding veil on her face exchanging vows with him. His brothers noticed his infatuation as well as his day dreaming a lot and decided to help him ask her on a date in the pretence of returning a book when they knew the girl was the new librarian but he’ll always go back with a dejected look. This time, he was threatened especially by Mark to do it else he’ll accept Dorcas’ proposal for him and he’ll forcibly be her boyfriend. Luke has never liked her one bit so he courageously went to her today but he noticed she wasn’t even giving him face so he was irritated and also anxious about her next action.
She glanced at him for a second before facing the system again. “I presume you borrowed this book yesterday?” she looked askance at him
“Yes, but it doesn’t contain what I need” he was fidgeting with his fingers
“What do you intend to find, you could get some help?” she smiled gently at him
“History of football” his reply was immediate
She nodded and called a young man that was arranging a shelf to help him check for the book. Luke’s smile was immediately discarded and before the other man carried him away, he heard himself say “Joyce, would you go out with me?” when she looked at him confused he added “on a date?”
He was shocked at what he said. He finally said it, he couldn’t help himself from smiling. Because he was a bit loud due to his panic, his brothers heard him and finally smiled proudly and waited to hear her affirmative reply
“Why would I want to go out with you?” she scowled “in case you haven’t noticed, I’m way older than you”
His brothers stared open-mouthed at the girl. She was the first girl to receive their brother’s affection but then rejected him when thousands of girls in their school and street flock themselves at him but he wouldn’t give them face.
“I think this is karma” Sam whispered to his brothers
“In what way?” Luke retorted surprising the girl
“Age…”
“That’s just a random number. I can be 20 and you wouldn’t know” he interrupted her.
She was startled at his reply. ‘was this boy even normal’ she thought
“Height…” she decided to continue but was interrupted again
“Just give me a year and I’ll be much taller than you”
“Then come back after one year” she huffed irritably
“Then I’ll hold you by your words” he smirked and walked out feeling on cloud nine. His brothers had to close their mouth and run out with him.
“Wow! So you finally did it. Mark pay up” Sam stretched out his palm to Mark
Normally, Luke would be worried about Sam’s obsession with money and the fact that while he almost peed his pant talking to a girl they made a bet on him but he was feeling ecstatic so didn’t reply
“Oh boy! John look at that car” Mark distracted him. John who was on his phone was irritated but what he saw was worth the distraction. He saw the latest Benz car which he didn’t really know the model leaving his mouth agape, a second time in one day.
“okay, enough with the distraction” Sam directed his attention to Mark again “Markey, pay up” he mimicked Dorcas voice making him hurriedly hand him some cash so he’ll stop the mimicking and in turn everyone laughed including Luke who finally came down to cloud five.
When they got home, they met Lydia chasing Emilia and when she saw them, she ran into the arms of the first person she saw which was Sam who happily spun her making her giggle.
“How was your football training?” Lydia glanced through the boys and they got confused. ‘what football practice?’ they thought then they all looked at Luke as was the only sport participator in their house.
“It was okay” he scratched his head awkwardly “Mark, John and Sam sat at the bleachers all through and I guess they should be hungry” he signalled them with his eyes when their mum wasn’t looking.
“Yes, I’m starving not even hungry” Sam butted in dramatically and dropped Emilia to her mum so he’d hurriedly join his brothers who earlier ran off to the kitchen.
“Really Luke? None of us know the basics for football games. How could you use us without our knowledge”? Sam argued
“Yea. What if Sam directly asked her what football practice?” Mark added
“Why me?” Sam asked angrily
“Because you are the talkative one” Mark replied.
“When you guys are done, meet us in the room” John yelled from the alerting the arguing boys that they were alone in the kitchen
“Where are you taking an apple to” Sam asked Mark when he got an apple from the fridge and immediately took a bite
“Remember were are hungry” was his reply. With a shrug, Sam also got an apple but added two bananas to satiate his appetite.
Back in the room, due to having a tiring and nerve racking day, Luke went off to sleep with a early. Although a year was so long to wait, he’d use that time to develop himself into a fine man, he thought. A man whom Joyce would find irresistible and he’d definitely sweep her off her feet on his first move, he kept thinking till he finally slept off ignoring his brothers’ jabs about him pissing his pant only for a love confession.**********
Sorry again for the delay😭😭😭
