Ways to Live Forever

5:16 pm,
"Mum... I'm home!" Emily calls out as she enters the house and puts her bag down and removes her blazer to reveal she is currently in her PE kit rather than her normal school inform, She tries to turn the hallway light on but realizes there must be a powercut, she walks through to the lounge to see her Mum's handbag, car keys and phone on the side, she picks up her Mum's phone to see one text message from Jack saying that he will be home around 9 pm.

She hears a noise from upstairs like something falling off the side, "Mum?" She calls out nervously as she doesn't like the idea of it getting dark outside and the house being in complete darkness, she walks to the front door and locks it before slowly walking up the stairs. "Mum... are you here?" Emily calls out again as she hears a weird noise from the bathroom, She walks slowly to the bathroom and grabs hold of Nikki's glass vase just in case there is an intruder. 

Emily carefully pushes open the bathroom door and holds her breath, "...Emily... thank god!" Nikki smiles looking happy to see her daughter.
"Mum... what's wrong?" Emily questions nervously.
"I jinxed myself... my waters have broken" Nikki breathes and continues to hold onto the bathroom sink.

She looks at her Mum and tries to hold herself together, "You've got to be joking me right..." Emily stammers slightly.
"No... and she's... she's coming... fast" Nikki stutters before a contraction takes over her body sending her whole body into a spasm and she almost falls to the floor by Emily jumps into action and helps her to the floor.

"Mum!" Emily panics as she watches her Mum cry out in pain which is rather distressing for Emily to see. She grabs her phone from where she had placed it down on the sink and unlocks her phone before calling Jack.

She waits for it to dial out and then waits for Jack to answer, "Hello Jack Hodgson speaking?" A familiar voice answers it was clear to Emily he was yet to add her phone number to his contacts.

"Jack... it's Emily, help!" Emily panics.
"What's wrong?" He replies.
"I don't know... it's... it's Mum, the baby is coming... her waters have broken... she's in the bathroom, it's too early, oh my god... what do I do Jack!" Emily panics and speaks extremely quickly.

"Slow down Emily, tell me that again" Jack speaks trying to understand what is even coming out of the 14-year-olds mouth.
"The baby is coming... Mum's waters have broken, she said it's coming fast" Emily speaks slowly but still in a panicked tone.
Emily places the phone down and puts on the speaker, "Right you need to ask your Mum to check for the baby's head, I'm on my way Emily don't worry," Emily looks up at her Mum as Jack continues to talk to them.

"I can't... No... I Can't!" Nikki replies and a panicked look washes over Emily's face and sends her a shade of grey.
"Emily, you need to help your Mum get her trousers and underpants off... okay, do you hear me?" He adds and Emily makes a noise in agreement as she helps her Mum.
"Jack..." Emily panics as she helps her Mum remove her trousers.
"Yes?" He asks.
"I think I can see the head... Mum?" Emily replies and looks to her Mum for answers who is busy having a contraction and panicking that it's all too early for the baby.

Nikki moans and screams a little with the sheer pain ripping through her body, "It's the fucking head... I can bloody feel it!" Nikki pants as she places a hand between her legs to feel for the baby.
"How long do you reckon you've got Nik?" Jack asks assuming he's on speakerphone.
"Not's long Jack... please hurry up..." Nikki pants. Emily stands up and Nikki grabs her wrist, "Don't you dare leave me..." She groans her face now dripping with sweat. Nikki pulls her daughter back down to the floor and holds her hand through a contraction. "Don't you dare pass out on me either!" Nikki groans again.

"Emily... I need you to get your Mum some warm clean towels from the airing cupboard and place them on the radiator, Clarissa has called you an ambulance but there is a back long tonight, listen to me Emily, you need to support your Mum and your baby sister. She's going to be very vulnerable and possibly won't breathe seeing how early it is but you need to help her okay!" Jack speaks and Emily looks at her Mum, kisses her head and stands.

"I'm getting towels Mum..." Emily replies and quickly dashes through to Nikki's room and into the ensuite before grabbing a load of bath towels and coming back through and placing them on the radiator. She comes back through to see her Mum baring down which makes her panic, "Mum what are you doing?" Emily questions.

"Pushing...ahh shit!" She cries out and Emily panics even more.
"Oh no Mum, don't do that, wait until the ambulance is here" Emily panics at the whole idea of her Mum delivering the baby on the bathroom floor with no one to help but herself.

Nikki pushes again and screams out, "Jack!" Nikki screams hearing him driving rather fast while still on the phone. "Don't you even fucking crash that car!" Nikki screams through a contraction almost deafening Emily.

"Don't you worry Nik's, I'm almost there!" Jack replies calmly.
Nikki pants and rests between very close contractions and looks at Emily who has sat awkwardly in front of her unsure of where to look or what to do.  "You came from there... don't know what you're blushing abou-t!" Nikki breathes before being hit by another contraction. "Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck... she's coming!" Nikki cries and throws her head back as she pushes down.

The phone call suddenly cuts off and Emily is left to fend for herself with her Mum who is screaming blue murder in front of her. "Get the towels, Emily," Nikki says and pushes again. Emily reaches over and grabs the towels off the radiator before placing them beside her, Emily suddenly looks down in between Nikki's legs to see the baby slip effortlessly from Nikki's body into her waiting hands.

Jack rushes up the stairs and arrives just in time to see the baby arrive into Nikki's waiting hands. Emily grabs the towels and helps Nikki warm the baby up and she rubs her tiny back to get her to breathe.
