My name is Richard and I'm 14 years old. I live in the town of Linz, Austria close to the border with Germany. My sister Sophie says she saw a jeep carrying the German's leader across the border. It is basically an invasion and they are incorporating us into the Anschluss, the Nazi empire. The thing is that some people are being arrested as Jews while Christians are getting called up for military service. As I pack up the boxes, a bunch of Nazi troops burst into our house and try to take us away. We smash them over the head with the dining room chairs before we run for our lives. We hop into an Austrian tank and drive off with my uncle driving crashing into Nazi vehicles. They are on to us, so we drive into a field where their vehicles can't reach us. After a bit of driving, we ditch the tank and run across the border into Switzerland. We walk for a while until we reach a bed and breakfast. We have been allowed to stay as long as we want with no extra charge. After unpacking my suitcase, I lay on the bed thinking how lucky we were to escape today . Grandma and Grandpa survived and they have been permitted to go and live in Switzerland. I have felt relief now as I thought they did not survive the initial attack on Linz. Vienna has been captured by the Nazi forces, but the Nazis have not been really aggressive unlike previous incidents. We pulled out of the World Cup due to the attack. I was really hoping that Austria could have won as we placed 4th last time. Czechoslovakia could be next as the Nazi's begin their giant empire of Europe!
