•Infatuation•
/ɪnˌfætʃ.uˈeɪ.ʃən/
strong but usually not lasting feelings of love or attraction

Third Person

Have you ever heard about the ancient demigod Heracles, or his more common name- Hercules? In a short form, Hercules was the son of the Olympian God Zeus and his mortal affair Alcmene, after Hera -Zeus's wife and also sister- found out that he cheated once again and that with a mortal, she was driven with jealousy and madness for the offspring that she sent two snakes to kill him as he was still an infant. But Hercules, Hercules was so strong that he strangulated them with his bare hands and played with their dead bodies as he laid in his crib.

One of Hercules's greatest achievements later was the fight against the Hydra in his second labour. The Hydra was a detestable water-creature with multiple heads. It was summoned by Hades -the god of the dead and Hercules's uncle- to destroy him too but he fought. The remarkable thing about that monster was every single time you cut off one of her heads, the double amount would grow back.

Hercules managed to kill the monstrosity with the help of his nephew Iolaus, he would cut off the heads and Iolaus burned the neck to prevent them from growing back. And so Hercules finished the Hydra's death.

What does this have to do with Alessia or Kaden?

The Hydra's heads, they grew back many times. It was like Alessia's feelings for Kaden; no matter how often she pushed the thoughts of him back, they reappeared. But Hercules killed them, didn't he? Yes, he did.

But she had not reached this point yet, Alessia was still figuratively swinging around her sword trying to get rid of the strong emotion she felt, each head being an even more prominent one.

She needed an Iolaus but she was not ready for that yet, she was still battling on her own.

It was the night after she had driven to his house, instead of making her long way home she chose to head to North Hills.

Alessia smiled when the door opened and she was greeted with a familiar face, "Alessia, honey!" Seline grinned as she pulled her in for a hug. "Hey, Mrs. Coleman."

"No." Seline waved her off. "Sabes que es solo Seline!"
(You know it's just Seline)

The older woman ushered her in and asked if she would like something to drink, which she denied. Seline smiled lightly as she saw the slightly disheartened look on the young girl's face, "don't mind me. She's upstairs in her room."

Grateful, Alessia nodded her head before going up the stairs. She opened the room door to find the girl she had been looking for, laying in her bed with headphones plugged in, as her foot drummed against the sheet to the beat of her music.

"HEY!" She shouted and Winter almost jumped out of her skin. "What the hell?" Winter grumbled as she stood up from the floor. "ALESSIA!"

Alessia laughed hugging her friend closely before they sat down on the bed.

"How come you're here? Why didn't you tell me!"

She sighed as she searched fore a way to put her words correctly, "I-I uh- I went to see K-him." Winter's eyes went big, what?
That's what she asked her then.

"It's-I don't know." She mumbled exasperatedly. "I need to get rid of these feelings, and I-I thought that if I go see him one last time- I can forget about him."

Winter wanted to lecture her about doing something like that but Alessia was old enough to make her own decisions and when she saw the expression her closest friend held, her heart broke. She was good at cheering people up and giving advice yet she could not help but feel like this was a repetition of what happened to her ex-best friend.

No, she believed, Alessia was not that way. The younger girl pulled her friend into her arms and then the dam broke.

"It's going to be okay, shhh." She said stroking her hair. "Everything will be fine."

After Alessia had cried for a while into Winter's chest she calmed down and let Winter tilt her head up at her. She smiled warmly, her face soft and kind.

"Alessia." Through blurred and red eyes she looked at Winter, waiting for her to talk. "I think I know why you feel this way." Winter wiped Alessia's tears from her cheeks as she held her gaze, "you are in love with Kaden."

Her heart stood still, "n-no, no, no- I am not! I can't-I'm not-" She shushed her as Alessia's heart started beating in a normal rhythm again.
Where was Iolaus when you needed him?
Oh, who was she kidding, deep down she knew very well she liked him, but love—
"Infatuated! I-I'm infatuated with him. Not in love. I could never love a monster like him."

Winter nodded while whispering an 'okay'. Clearly, Alessia was not ready to confess something that big yet and maybe Winter was wrong and it really was just infatuation.

———

It was twelve am and Alessia was asleep. Her friend tucked her into her bed and tiptoed out of the room.

"Babe?" She whispered walking out of her house. Hayes stood straight and enclosed his arms around his girlfriend, "hey, baby."

"Alessia is here. She went to see him and when she came here she broke down, I saw her face, Liam." Winter stopped, her voice muffled by her pressing her entire face into his chest. "She loves him, I am sure. She says it's infatuation but it's not. I don't want her to get more hurt, Liam."

Hayes stroked her back as his cheek rests on the top of her head, he reassured her like she had reassured Alessia earlier, everything would be alright, it always would. "I'll talk to him, okay?" She quickly shook her head, "don't."

The couple talked for a few more minutes before Hayes went to leave, "I love you, sleep tight. And don't worry too much, it'll be fine."

"I love you, too." Winter mulled before heading back inside. She slipped into her room and got into her bed next to Alessia who was slightly flinching in her sleep.

----

The next morning came quicker than expected. Winter was up before Alessia because of the continuous vibrations of her phone beneath her pillow, so she went to get ready and make breakfast. It was Friday and Winter actually had school so she thought about either ditching or dragging Alessia with her to High School.

Alessia strolled into the kitchen seeing her friend fixing up something the kitchen but she was too entranced by the smell of coffee.

"Morning." she yawned, it was only five to six in the morning.

"Hey! So there's food-" she gestured to the table. "And you have the choice either I ditch or you go with me to school."

She was confused, "with your o school?"

"Yeah, pretty sure Hayes can pull a few strings and no one will care that you aren't a student there."

"Sure- wait. Are those bitches of yours still there?"

Winter nodded.

"Oh I'm definitely going now!"

She laughed but Alessia looked dead serious.

"Let's go get you ready then, borrow something of mine. Go!"

And so an hour later they were in the parking lot of Winter's school with Hayes waiting for them to get out in front of his donna's car.
