Grace & Dani

They are just kids...

Carl gave Grace and Dani his old cabin for them to stay and helped them provide everything to survive while Grace is recovering. Electricity, water supply, a fridge full of food, a full cabinet also stocked up, Grace medicine and a secret basement full of loaded weapons. To Dani's think, a machine is a machine.

Now that Grace is fully recovered, she starts roaming around the cabin and Dani will always find her in the basement. She also starts doing more chores and helps Dani with or without Dani ask and it has been a routine for them.

Dani always be the one who wakes up early, around 5 am and prepare breakfast. Whenever she's in a good mood, she'll make a table full of food but if Dani only make one dish, Grace knows that Dani is still moody about last night arguments. Somehow, Grace manage to take back Dani's heart before night because Dani will cook a marvelous dinner.

During midday, Dani will clean up the cabin while Grace will walking around the cabin to check the perimeter or the possiblity of the Legion's machine will come and attack them so she will always be prepare. She is also set up a few traps and cameras a few meters away. After done checking, she will always head down to the basement and check all of the weapons. From blades, knives, swords, bombs, guns, ak47, and other smaller to the bigger guns that Dani don't have any idea what are their names. Soon, Grace will push her to learn how to use it.

When it comes to evening, Grace will swinging the heavy axe that Carl left and chopping some block of woods to make firewood under the tree. Dani likes it warm so, she'll need it more than the average person. Grace doesn't mind as long as she at least have something to occupy her mind and time. They lives a nice simple life. Dani watch Grace from inside the cabin and grab two glasses of water because one is never enough for Grace.

"Grace..." oh how she wish to call her "honey..." instead.

"Yes..?" Grace turn to Dani, hold the axe on her left hand and wipes the sweat off her brows and forehead on her right hand. She smiles when she sees Dani and brush off her not so dirty hands before taking the glass from Dani. The view of Grace always stuns Dani. Now she just wearing a plain white tshirt and Carl's old plaid and cargo pants that Sarah bought for her because Carl's don't know her size. Her sweats dripping down from her forehead to her cheeks, her messy hair blown by the wind and some dirt here and there makes Dani want to capture the moment and live forever like this but their relationship is not beyond than heated kissing, hugging, cuddling.

"Thanks Dani..." she gently touch Dani's chin and drink the water in a second.

"Maybe I should bring 3 glasses instead..." Dani said and they giggles. Suddenly, Grace turn serious and hide Dani behind her. Due to her augmentation, she hears a noise came from behind the tree not far from them.

"Grace, what happen? What is it?"

"I heard something.."

Dani then turn her head to see around and sees two children a girl and a boy with a bike hides behind the bushes and looking at them. Her shoulder now relax a bit and walking slowly to approach them but Grace held her hand.

"Grace, you can relax now... They're just kids..."

"They might be spying on you..."

"They are not more that 6 years old... Come on, a kid will not harm you... Now, put down the axe, you're scaring them..."

"We are in the woods Dani, how can kids be in tje the woods..?"

"They maybe lived somewhere in the woods, like us... Come, let's go see them..."

Grace didn't say anything but follow her from behind. Maybe Dani is right, plus kids are not a match for her if they want to to anything harm. Dani see the kids take a few steps back, looks like they are scare. She looks at her back and Grave still have the axe on her hand.

"Grace... You're scaring them... Leave the axe down soldier..." Grace follow the order, put down the axe and follow Dani to approach the kids. Dani  smiles warmly at them and calling them to come over. The kids slowly walks out to them and the boy is pulling his sister dress.

Dani bend to her knee to match their height and greet them. "Hi you two... Are you two siblings?" The girl nods. "What is your name sweetie?"

"Katie."

"And this handsome boy?"

"Charlie."

"Aww, Katie and Charlie... My name is Dani and this is Grace... You two are so cute..." Dani pats both of their head and Grace watch their interactions.

"Who send you?" The kids looking up high at her and back to Dani. They move closer to Dani as Dani can protect them.

"Grace... Be nice..." she looks back at them, and holds their hands. "I am sorry about her. She just not used to have people around especially some cuties like you two.." they giggles and Grace seems to relax a little bit more. Dani ask them again "are you two hungry or thirsty?" They both nods. "Okay, come on.. I'll get you some cookies.. Watch your steps kid, you don't wanna get hurt by the trap that Grace made to chase the raccoon.." Dani hold Katie hand on her right and Charlie on the left. Grace looks at her like 'what' face and Dani just sticks  out her tongue. "Oh, Grace, soldier... Can you please brings their bicycle to the front?"

"Really Dani??" Dani just wink at her and she goes to take the bicycle. She picks up the small bicycle easily with her hand. Like she can say 'no' to Dani. Grace go wash her hands and see Dani already give them a glass of milk and cookies. A smiles appear on Grace lips as she watches the three.
