𝖄OU FEELING ANY BETTER? The Kid's Mother enters, goes to him, and fluffs his pillow. She kisses his forehead and briefly feels it. She's worried.

The boy lies in his bed, coughing. He's pale, one "sick cookie." Maybe he's seven, or eight, or nine. He holds a remote in one hand, presses it, and the video game moves a bit. He's hit by another coughing fit before putting the remote down.

His room is monochromatic, greys and blues, mildly high-tech. We're in the present day and this is a middle class house, somewhere in the suburbs.

"A little bit," The Kid responds, not taking his eyes away from the television.

"Guess what," His Mother steps away from the bed to open the curtains and reveals a snowy afternoon setting.

"What?"

"Your grandfather's here."

The Kid was clearly not overjoyed. "Mom," He dragged, "can't you tell him that I'm sick?"

"You are sick," She sits on his bed, "That's why he's here."

"He'll pinch my cheek. I hate that," He exaggerates once again.

"Maybe he won't."

The Kid shoots her an "I'm sure" look, as we cut to the Kid's Grandfather bursting into the room. Kind of rumpled, but the eyes are bright. He has a wrapped package tucked under one arm as he immediately goes to the kid and pinches his cheek. "Hey! How's the sickie? Heh?"

The Kid gives his Mother an "I told you so" look. The Mother sighs and ignores it, retreating to the door.

"I think I'll leave you two pals alone," She says and exits the room.

There's an uncomfortable silence before the Grandfather speaks again, "I brought you a special present." He smiles.

"What is it?" The Kid asks, genuine enthusiasm written on his face.

"Open it up."

The Kid does, only to be met with a book. He looks at his Grandfather, confused. "A book?"

"That's right. When I was your age, television was called books," He sits in a chair beside the Kid's bed, "And this is a special book. It was the book my father used to read to me when I was sick, and I used to read it to your father. And today, I'm gonna read it to you."

"Does it have any sports in it?" The Kid asked hopefully.

The Grandfather began to move his hands so as to animate the story, "Are you kidding? Fencing. Fighting. Torture. Revenge. Giants. Monsters. Chases. Escapes. True love. Miracles."

"It doesn't sound too bad," The Kid turns off the television, "I'll try and stay awake."

"Oh. Well, thank you very much. It's very nice of you," The Grandfather sarcastically says, removing his fedora, "Your vote of confidence is overwhelming. All right." He opens the book and begins to read, "The Princess Bride, by S. Morgenstern. Chapter One. Juniper was raised in a large castle in the country of Scotland.

"Her favorite pastimes were riding her horse and tormenting one student in particular. His name was Draco, but she never called him that. Isn't that a wonderful beginning?"

"Yeah. It's really good," The kid says with all seriousness.

"Nothing gave Juniper as much pleasure as ordering Draco around..."

We now cut to a large castle surrounded by water and magical entities. It's a beautiful, sunny day.
