Warriors Novella Set: She-Cats of the Lake

Chapter 7

The battle is over. ShadowClan was victorious despite being caught by surprise by the SkyClan attackers. Peachbloom tried to convince the cats that Fallenrain was the one who killed Redclaw, but no cat believed her, convinced that it was Peachbloom who killed him. Even though the battle was very successful, it wasn't won without a few losses. Fallenrain was fine, but Mallowstar lost a life and Larchpelt, Thistlefall, Rainbreeze, Foxfang, and Hazelpelt.

Peachbloom had told Fallenrain as they battled that she told Creekstar a few lies, saying that the father of her kits was a rogue and that ShadowClan cats murdered her kits while she took them out to visit their rogue father. However, it didn't go well for Peachbloom, as SkyClan started to believe that it was Redclaw who killed her kits. ShadowClan believes that Peachbloom never had kits and is using them as an excuse. They believe that she killed Redclaw but is making excuses for herself. Peachbloom, to Fallenrain's surprise, killed both Larchpelt and Hazelpelt, just because they're related to Fallenrain. Fallenrain had battled her hard, but she soon fled. Fallenrain was very saddened by the loss of her family members and it only made her want to kill Peachbloom even more.

Due to the loss of Larchpelt, Mallowstar will have to name a new deputy before moonhigh. Fallenrain is unsure who she will name, as many of the deputy possibilities have been killed in battle. But, Fallenrain strongly believes that Mallowstar will choose her mate, Brackensnow, to be the new deputy.

Before vigil, began for the deceased cats, Mallowstar called a Clan meeting.

"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey join here beneath the high branch for a meeting!" Mallowstar yowls from the highbranch. The Clan then gathers around the highbranch.

"During the battle against SkyClan, we sadly lost our brave, loyal, and strong deputy, Larchpelt. Now, as my duty as the leader of ShadowClan, I must choose a deputy before moonhigh." She meows, looking down at her Clanmates, as if she is still deciding. "After a lot of thought, I have decided on who should be ShadowClan's new deputy." Mallowstar tells the Clan, sitting tall. "I say these words before StarClan, so that the spirits of our warrior ancestors may hear and approve of my choice. The new deputy of ShadowClan is Fallenrain. Fallenrain, you fought amazingly during the SkyClan ambush. You are a strong, fierce, and leader-like warrior of ShadowClan. You always watch over ShadowClan's well-being and care for all of your Clanmates. You would be the best fit for the role of ShadowClan's deputy, following in your father's pawsteps. You are a cat I can trust to be a great leader of ShadowClan if something were to happen to me," Mallowstar meows proudly. The Clan cheers and congratulates Fallenrain while she freezes due to shock.

I was so convinced she would choose Brackensnow! Why me?! Fallenrain thinks, but she is very appreciative of her leader's decision. She nods her head respectfully at Mallowstar.

"Thank you, Mallowstar. I am very surprised, but I will make sure to serve ShadowClan well as Clan deputy," Fallenrain meows.

"Fallenrain! Fallenrain!" The Clan cheers as they begin to surround and congratulate her, feeling more love than ever.

"Now, let the vigils for the dead begin," Mallowstar meows, leaping down from the highbranch.
