Taming A Dragon

Lakeside

The alarm clock ringing was the first sound I heard when I woke up. I groaned unhappily and reached over to switch it off. I looked to my left and noticed Yamper had slept through it. There was nothing that boy couldn't sleep through. If we ever had intruders he would be no help. I let out a little laugh and swung my legs over to the edge of the bed. 

I loved to wake up early in the morning. The world seemed so silent in those early hours. I walked over to my wardrobe and took out my sport leggings, t-shirt, socks and sneakers. I tied up my brown hair quickly and gently patted Yamper, careful not to wake him up. I opened the front door and slipped out quietly.

The sounds of Rookidees singing filled the air and I listened to their melody happily as I walked down the small path of my house. I began to jog towards the village gently enjoying the sounds of nature surrounding a silent, sleeping town. I passed the 'Route 01' sign and made it to Wedgehurst village in good time as it wasn't far from my home. I continued jogging past the pokémon center as far as route two and stopped for a short break. I caught my breath and started doing some stretching to make sure I didn't pull a muscle. I continued jogging down the route until I noticed a figure sitting on the bench by Professor Magnolia's home.

"An intruder?" I whispered to myself confused. 

I walked over towards the bench and recognized the unique, orange bandana wrapped around the person's head.

"You shouldn't be sitting here, this is someone else's garden" I noted.

"You shouldn't sneak up on people" he answered without turning around.

"W-Well...you should leave, this is Professor Magnolia's home and I won't stand here without doing something about it" I objected crossing my arms annoyed.

"I do know Professor Magnolia, she's a friend of my father's, they are working on gigantamax theories" he replied turning around with a smug expression.

"G-Gigantamax?" I mumbled confused.

"Nevermind, you'll understand more about it when you're older" he shrugged.

"I'm the same age as you!" I protested shaking my head.

"Maybe you are, but I'm mentally more mature" he grinned showing his perfect teeth causing me to roll my eyes.

A moment of silence passed between us. I wasn't sure if I should leave or stay. Part of me wanted to leave him and return home but another part wanted me to stay put.

"Are you going to stand there all morning gawking at me or are you going to sit with me" he laughed turning to face the lake. A hesitated for a moment but decided to join him. What was the worst that could happen? I looked across the lake taking in its beauty. I had never taken the time to sit down and admire it.

"What has you up so early this morning?" Raihan asked still facing the lake.

"I like to get up early to exercise, less people to see me red faced and nasty" I mumbled embarrassed.

"You don't look bad to me" he shrugged glancing over causing me to make eye contact with those teal blue eyes. I looked away quickly hiding the blush on my face. I mentally shuck my head. What is wrong with you Mugi? Get a grip! I was so panicked I didn't hear the next line of words that left his lips.

"Um sorry what did you say there?" I asked puzzled. 

"What? Did you get lost in my eyes?" he grinned laughing slightly. 

"No...I-I'm just tired, it's really early you know, your eyes aren't that special" I defended quickly looking him straight in the eye without flinching.

He held his hand over his heart with a sad expression on his face. "Now that hurt Mugi, I'm just trying to be nice, no need to be so feisty" he pouted struggling to hide his developing grin.

I let out a sigh and noticed that the sun was rising over the lake. I watched in awe as the sky changed from dark to bright colours. The earth wakening up from its slumber. The Rookidees got louder as more began to wake up and sing. I stood up and stretched. 

"I better go home" I nodded. 

"Aw so soon?...Do you maybe..wanna hang out later?" he asked putting his hands in his pockets looking at the ground.

I looked at him feeling my cheeks burn up. Why would he want to hang out? What would we even do? I don't have many friends. What do friends do when they hang out? I mentally began to panic. I felt my hands get sweaty as my heartbeat picked up a little.

"I...um..I can't! I...need to go!" I yelled and began to, literally, run away. I kept jogging until I made it home and reached the safety of my bedroom. I collapsed on the bed and groaned into the blankets. What did I just do? I ran away from his question. I'm such an idiot! Why didn't I just say no calmly. My Yamper jumped onto the bed and began pulling my hair. "Ow! Yamper!" I groaned sitting up quickly. He looked up at me with a mischievous look wagging his tail. "I hate that I can't be mad at you Yamper" I sighed petting his forehead gently.

I stood up and grabbed a change of clothes and a towel and went to the bathroom to shower. I got undressed and stepped into the warm water and sighed in relief. Nothing bet having a warm shower after a jog in the morning. I started to wash my hair with cheri berry scented shampoo and conditioner before rinsing it off.  I stood in the shower for a few moments. Letting the warm water run down my head as I thought about my morning. About him.

It was starting to annoy me how small things about him affected me to large extents. This never happened with other guys. Why was this one different? Something made me feel this way and it made me want to get to know him more. To find out what he liked. What made him laugh. I wanted to be friends. I wasn't great at maintaining friendships, maybe that was why he made me nervous. Yes! That must be it. I stepped out of the shower with a new form of action in my mind. I wasn't going to let past friendships ruin the chance of future ones forming. I was going to see him again.
