I woke up the next morning feeling more exhausted than usual. I snuggled into my blankets too tired to leave my bed just yet. My thoughts began to drift to the experiences I had the last few days, my time with Raihan and his friends. Especially the moment where Raihan had been so close to me. I didn't really understand why he did it. Maybe he simply forgot what he was doing for a moment.
The door to my room was pushed open and Yamper ran inside and jumped onto my bed. "Yamper no" I warned but he was already on top of me licking my cheek and forehead as I struggled to push him off me. "Yamper off!" I yelled and he hopped off the bed. He stared up at me as he wagged his tail.
"I was relaxing Yamper" I groaned pulling my blanket over my shoulder.
Yamper continued to stare at me.
"Who set you up to this? Was it mum?" I asked and his ear twitched. "I knew it!" I laughed.
Despite how unusually exhausted I was, I decided to get out of bed to try and be a little more productive. I put on my slippers and walked out to the kitchen where mum was cooking up some breakfast. I sat at the table quietly, the offer Sonia had been telling me about still fresh in my mind. I watched my mum cook and frowned. I would really miss her if I did go off and travel as a trainer. She would be so far away but I could always come back to visit her! Plus I could always take breaks from being a trainer especially during the holidays. I wanted to do this. I just needed her to be okay with it. To let me go.
"Mum?" I mumbled.
"Yes Mugi?" she asked not turning around.
"What would you say if I wanted to become a pokémon trainer and fill out a pokédex?" I questioned keeping my eyes on her body movements. She froze for a few seconds which made me worry. Maybe it was too soon to ask her. "Mum?".
"Sorry Mugi, you just caught me off guard" she laughed nervously and handed me my breakfast. "What brought this on so suddenly" she wondered.
"I met Professor Magnolia's granddaughter, Sonia, and she said that her grandmother was looking for trainers to help her fill out her pokédex and she would help them by giving them their first pokémon...I don't think that this chance will come again...so I wanted to ask you" I answered. My stomach was beginning to feel nervous at this point. I wasn't sure how mum would react.
"I see...well Mugi if it's what you really want I can't stop you from going, I can only ask you to be safe and to make sure you visit me when you can" she smiled.
"Really? You wouldn't mind if I left in the near future?" I gasped, surprised by her answer.
"Of course I'll mind, I'm your mother I'll miss you, but I don't want to stop you from doing something you want to do, I knew the time would come eventually, that you would want to leave, just make sure this is what you want" she nodded and started to eat her breakfast along with me. I smiled to myself as I ate. My mum was so understanding, I was lucky to have her.
After breakfast, I decided to visit Professor Magnolia. I made sure to avoid any wild pokémon on my way over and soon I was standing outside her home. I held my fist up to knock and the door opened before I could. An older woman stood before me with a walking stick in her hand. "You must be Mugi" she smiled warmly.
"You know who I am?" I asked surprised.
"Of course, Sonia mentioned you to me, she had a feeling that you would be here to help me, come inside, would you like some tea?" she asked walking into the kitchen.
"N-No thank you!" I answered politely after I closed the door and followed her in. She turned on the kettle, I assumed for herself, and motioned for me to sit across from her at the table. I pulled out my seat and sat down feeling anxious.
