I sat quietly under the steps of the Library with the book I had stolen. I heard footsteps and yelling come from the front doors of the building.
"Where are you, you little thief!" The tall lizard like librarian was cute. His light green eyes and long black hair made me almost feel bad for stealing from him. I chuckled as he stomped around the on the dead grass, leaving a long drag line from his tail to where I had ran around the building to trick him.
I looked down at the book and smiled, opening the cover and looking at the old, withered pages of the book, running my fingers across the words.
"There you are.~" I smiled and looked through the cracks of the stairs at his now pitch black holes where his eyes should be.
"Heeey!" I said smiling sheepishly. "You don't mind if I borrow this ri-" He yanked me between the boards, making me drop the book.
"Look here thief, I advissse you to check out the damn book nexxxt time or I swear I will swallow you whole." He hissed yanking me closer with each deep, gravely word. I rested my hand on his face and pushed him back.
"Yeah yeah." I bent over to reach the book and put it in my satchel. I straightened my black button down and dusted off my jeans. "Look, I'll bring it back jeez. Don't you trust me Alister?" He slithered close to my ear and I felt him smile, "No. No I don't." I huffed and strode away from the angry snake.
The air was lined with heavy smoke and dark grey clouds. Everything smelled like it was burning. Flowers, hair, rubber. dirt. Everything. I hated hell. I'd rather be in Purgatory than this. I sighed with instant regret as I remembered my current situation. If I traveled anywhere besides Earth and Hell, I would die.
