Chapter 4- Change.
The weather was awful, like always. The thunder was roaring and the ground was struck my lightening every now and then. My body ached from the hours and hours of cleaning last night.
When I had arrived back home, Roman had been busy throwing stuff around. He had been furious about something. I didn’t ask though. I had already played with fire once last night; if I had done it again, I had no doubt that I was going to get burned.
I stretched my limps and tried to get out of bed. If it hadn’t been for the heavy arm that held me captive and close to the bed, I would probably have succeeded.
I smiled to myself as I felt him tighten his strong iron grip about me, his soft breaths gently hitting the side of my neck. Roman had snuck in last night, after he was done with his anger tantrum.
It wasn’t often we shared intimate moments like this but whenever we did, it felt like heaven. I adored these moments with the man I loved.
In these moments, Roman was completely and utterly calm. In these moments, he was a tamed man. I cherished these moments. It was in these rare moments I convinced myself that he actually did care about me.
Roman groaned in his sleep and started moving ever so slightly. He wasn’t loosening his grip. I trailed my hand up and down his forearm.
He groaned once more, “I’m tired.”
“Then go back to sleep,” I said, creating small patterns with my fingers.
I felt more movement behind me.
“I can’t. I have a lot to do today. I’m probably not going to be home for dinner,” Roman answered.
I nodded, a little disappointed by the fact that he was going to be gone for the entire day. I sat up and looked around for some clothes.
“If you get bored, call Caleb. He would be more than happy to spend his day with you.” His voice was distant and low.
Before I could say anything, his phone began to ring. Roman looked at the screen for a moment before answering, looking me dead in the eyes, “Stone.”
I looked away and flipped my long hair to the side. I studied the thick strands of my hair. The auburn light color was slowly fading in the edges. I badly needed a haircut. I hadn’t cut my hair since I ran away from my last home.
“-then finish him. Has he paid what he owed? Then slice his throat and send a letter to his wife and kids. They have to take over his debt. I don’t care how old they are, just do it.”
Roman was quiet for a while, “sign it with my name. I’ll deal with any future problems.”
I wanted my hair a few shades darker. It was too light for my own liking.
“The boy is 19? Well, he’s old enough to deal with the consequences of his father’s actions.”
I closed my eyes. I didn’t want to listen to his convocation anymore.
“If he refuses, shoot him.”
I tried with all my power to shut his voice out. This wasn’t any of my business. The boy was only 19 years old, a year older than me.
“What´s the boy’s name?”
I needed distractions.
“Nathaniel. Then contact him first and have him deal with the debt. The little girl needs her mother.”
