CHAPTER 9 - KILLING ME SOFTLY.
I couldn’t sleep that night. My mind was still revolved around the nightmare and Roman. What surprised me the most was that my body had shut down completely in the library. I hadn’t been tired at all. Roman and Caleb had found me due to my screaming.
Apparently, Roman had been the one to hear me first. He was the first one with me in the library. I had finally pushed his buttons too much.
I had gone too far even though I had only read one of his books. He was hiding something; he had been hiding something from me since we first met.
Sometimes, I didn’t understand him. He cared about me. I could feel it. Whenever he touched me, he spoiled me with tender touches but whenever he spoke to me, the most horrific things would come out of his mouth.
“Knock, knock,” I heard a very familiar voice say. I was seated in my bed, covering under the warm covers. Even though it had just been a nightmare, I still felt like my body temperature was below its average.
“Come in,” I responded.
Caleb opened the door and peeked in, “what are you doing? Anything interesting? Anything sexy?” he asked, huskily whispering the last question.
I rolled my eyes at him, “no, I am not. You’re so weird sometimes, you know that?”
He nodded, “yeah. That’s a part of my charm.”
“What’s up?”
He shrugged and shut the door behind him, “I was bored so I wanted to check on you. I didn’t really like what happened earlier today. Roman is worried about you.”
Now it was my turn to shrug, “I was just having a nightmare. It’s not really a big deal. Everybody has nightmares.”
Caleb shook his head no, “not like that they don’t. Belle, we couldn’t wake you up for the first 5 minutes we were there. You were screaming like some sort of mad person.”
“I’m fine now.”
“I know. Roman has been asking about you all day. I’m sorry he’s acting the way he is but you’re really pushing your luck with him. You know what he’s capable of. Don’t go behind his back with stuff like finding Nathaniel’s little sister. It’s not your business to deal with in the first place. You’re forcing him to threaten you,” he said, as he took my hand.
I quickly pulled my hand out of his, “he wouldn’t even know I was looking for her if you hadn’t snitched on me.”
He sighed, “I’m sorry but I couldn’t let that go unnoticed. My loyalty is with Roman, you know that. It has always been and always will be.”
“And this was something you couldn’t keep to yourself? This one tiny thing as finding a little girl?”
“How much time have you been spending with Nathaniel? I know you’ve been seeing him,” he suddenly asked me, squinting his eyes together in suspicion.
“I-“, I started but he quickly interrupted me.
“It’s on the surveillance cameras.”
I blinked, “what surveillance cameras?” I never knew Roman had surveillance cameras in the house. Sure, the house was located in the middle of nowhere, but who would break in? If someone did decide to break in, he wouldn’t make it out alive, that’s for sure.
“In the basement where all the weapons are. Unless you have been admiring the glory of the guns, I would say that you have been seeing that guy,” Caleb said, the abhorrence clear in his voice.
