Tatum was so out of it

Tatum was so out of it. Running on three hours of sleep was not fun. Especially when a vampire, whom is not her lover, insisted on following her. Especially after having to explain to her lover why she hadn't told him about...everything.

Going to school was not even a thought anymore. She had gotten her dad to call her in sick after noticing that she looked dead. So, she decided to call Avery in sick and the two sat on the couch, watching Christmas movies and baking treats.

It was around twelve in the evening when she finally got a phone call.

"Hello?" she asks, putting the phone on speaker and setting it on the counter. She was trying to get the baking powder off her hands.

"Darlin'? How are you feeling?

"Ja-per!" Avery squeals, running over to the phone. He takes it in her dirty hands and starts telling Jasper about what they were doing. "And we washed Rudolph and we washed Mickey Mouse and then we washed Elf! Now we making cookies!"

"Cool, big man! What type of cookies are you making?" Jasper asks. Tatum's heart melts as she listens in on the two.

"Uh, auntie? What cookies is there?"

"We're making raspberry thumbprint cookies, bubby," Tatum says, wetting a washcloth and walking to Avery.

"Ja-per! We have ra-pberry thumb ones!" Avery says while his aunt wipes the raspberry filling from his face.

"Oh yeah? Well how about you go clean up? I can hear your aunt trying to wipe your face," Jasper says, hinting that he wanted to talk to his love. Avery quickly nods and waddles to the bathroom.

"Nice distraction, cowboy."

"Hey now. Don't make me miss you too much," Jasper says with a small chuckle.

"I can only try," she says softly.

"Is everything okay, darlin'?"

"Considering I've only gotten three hours of sleep, there's an annoying ass vampire quote on quote "protecting" me, I'm baking with a five-year-old, and I have to book a trip to France for my birthday. I'd say everything's a little hectic."

"Well, I could book your flight and keep the five-year-old busy," Jasper says. She can hear him typing on a keyboard. She tries to interrupt but he goes back to speaking, "Alec, on the other hand, is, as much as I hate saying this, kind of necessary for our current predicament."

"I know, but he still gets under my skin. I hate how he believes he's this god to me. All I want right now is a hug, cuddles, and maybe some hot chocolate. He's being childish by acting like he's in charge and if something doesn't go his way then the world will end," Tatum groans into the phone. She can hear Jasper's snickers of happiness. He didn't have to worry about Tatum feeling tempted by Alec.

"You are the definition of childish, girosole."

The voice in the corner of the room was attached to the most annoying person ever. Alec. She jumps and nearly drops the phone. She slaps her hand over her heart and steadies it quickly. She looks towards the bathroom, hearing Avery play with soap in the bathroom still. She looks back at Alec and sighs in irritation.

"Is it that whenever I say something bad about you, it like triggers something and you just appear out of thin-fucking-air?" Tatum growls at him.

"Ooh, man. You made her swear. You're in some deep shit," Jasper snickers through the phone. Tatum shushes him and glares at Alec fiercely.

"I am here to protect you," Alec says with a smirk. "I'm sure your lover cowboy would prefer me here for your safety."

"You're there because I have dirt on you," Jasper retorts sassily. "And because you made a commitment."

"Yes, yes. We all have commitments. Stay quiet, would you cowboy?" Alec snarks back. Tatum can hear a low growl come from Jasper before he speaks lowly into the phone.

"Only she can call me cowboy."

"Damn straight," Tatum says, quirking her eyebrow at Alec.

"Auntie! I need help!" Avery cries from the bathroom. She tenses up and looks between Alec and the bathroom.

"Go away, Alec," she says, shooing Alec out the house and heading to the bathroom. She places her phone on the sink counter and helps Avery wash his hands. "Av, why don't you go try a cookie?"

"Okay!" Avery says, happily running into the kitchen. She sighs softly and leans on the sink counter, she lowers her head next to the phone.

"There was a prime example of my life going to shit."
